Professor Edgar Stach

Prof. Edgar Stach, Dipl.-Ing. (equivalent to Master’s Degree), AIA/IA, RA (Germany) is Professor (tenured) at Thomas Jefferson University, College of Architecture and the Build Environment and the College of Design, Engineering and Commerce and joint Faculty at Oak Ridge National Laboratories USA (ORNL), Building Technologies Research and Integration Center. Before joining the faculty at Philadelphia University in 2012 he was from 1999 to 2012 faculty (tenured) at The University of Tennessee (UT), College of Architecture and Design and from 1995 to 1999 at the Bauhaus University Weimar in Germany. From 2007 to 2009 he was visiting research Professor at the Department of Building Technology at the TU Delft, Netherlands. From 2014-2015 Prof. Edgar Stach wasthe Program Manager at K.A.CARE for Energy Efficiency and Building Efficiency and responsible for establishing EEBE's strategic direction and research portfolio in Energy Efficiency and to develop the roadmap, implement policies and provide leadership for a multinational and multi-organizational team of experts and organizations. Main objectives were to develop a strong R&D platform for Saudi Arabia to support economic growth through development, implementation and commercialization of new technology. He also guides a team of planers and architects who will develop and execute in the next 5-8 years the new K.A.CARE city with 80,000 habitats and the new K.A.CARE National Laboratory for 1500 researches. He is founding director of the UT Institute for Smart Structures (ISS), a multidisciplinary research unit focusing on building technologies and high performance buildings. From 2009 to 2012 he was the principle investigator at UT for the Project ‘Living Light’ an award-winning design build project sponsored by the Department of Energy [DOE]. UT-Zero provides a platform and umbrella for research and development projects in the areas of passive and active solar energy harvesting, sustainable architecture, prefab home prototyping, eco-materials, and government policies. UT-Zero is connected to social science, economics, outreach, and other constituencies and stakeholders. His current research centers on new developments, innovative techniques, and advanced technologies in architecture for advanced energy-efficiency. He has more than 20 years of experience in high performance building design and building envelopes and worked with government organizations, universities and companies such as the US Department of Energy, NREL, TU Delft, University Kassel, Tsinghua University, Metropolia University Helsinki, TVA, Kawneer, AGC Glass, Schneider Electric, Sharp Solar and others. In 2017 he published the book ‘Mies van der Rohe. Space – Material –Detail’, (Stach, E. Birkhäuser 2017). He has authored and co-authored over 50 scientific papers and technical publications and lectured at universities in Europe, Asia and America. He received 5 UT Chancellor's Awards, 2 AIA Design Awards and the 2008 AIA Award. Professor Edgar Stach is a licensed architect with 25 years experience in city planning, building design and high performance building technologies. He established his architecture office 1995 in Germany and 1999 in the USA. His focus on materials, technology, and sustainability is supported through a mode of working that combines practice, teaching, and research. He actively takes part in the discourse of contemporary architecture through participation in international design competitions and collaborations. His work focuses on efficiency, ecological sensitivity, and responsibility and reflects his concern for the built environment. He has received national and international design awards and recognition for his accomplishments in this area. He holds a terminal degree in architecture from the RWTH-Aachen, one of Germany's leading research universities, is a registered architect in Germany and Europe, and has practiced in Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

Jeff Vinik

Jeff is the current owner of the Tampa Bay Lightning and Tampa Bay Storm. Vinik managed the Fidelity Magellan Fund from 1992 to 1996, where he averaged 17% annual returns. After leaving Fidelity, he started hedge fund Vinik Asset Management, with partners including Michael Gordon (now President of Fenway Sports Group). He made investors 93.8% in his first 11 months and approximately 50% a year for the next three years. At the end of 2000, Vinik returned investors $4.2 billion and focused on managing his own portfolio. Vinik and his partners closed down the fund in December 2013, and distributed $9Bn in assets. In 2010 he purchased a distressed Tampa Bay Lightning franchise with the stated intention of completely transforming the team on the ice and in the community. In executing his plan to bring a world class franchise to life in Tampa Bay, Vinik has invested more than $70 million in private funding into the publicly-owned Amalie Arena to create a guest-first facility recognized as one of the finest in the NHL. Additionally, under the umbrellas of the Vinik Family Foundation and the Lightning Foundation, Jeff and his wife Penny have invested more than $20 million in Tampa Bay area charities through a variety of programs and donations, the most notable being the Lightning Community Heroes program. The Lightning's success under Vinik has coincided with the emergence of a development company, Strategic Property Partners (SPP), LLC and its plan to develop nearly 60 acres in downtown Tampa's south core. SPP, a partnership between Vinik and Cascade Investment, LLC of Kirkland, Washington, is expecting to deliver approximately $3 billion in investment to reinvent the blocks surrounding Amalie Arena into a walkable 24-7 live, work play and stay wellness district. Construction of phase one is scheduled to begin in 2017 and it will include a School of Medicine for the University of South Florida, corporate office buildings, a hotel, residences, retail, restaurants, entertainment and improved infrastructure.

John is COO/EVP/CTO of Rudin Management Company (RMC).  RMC manages over 15 million square feet of commercial and residential space, the largest privately owned real estate company in NYC owned by the Rudin Family. John has been involved in every major project the company has developed over the last 24 years including the redevelopment and creation of the world’s first smart building at 55 Broad Street (1995-1996), the development of the Reuters Building at 3 Times Square (1998- 2001), the redevelopment of the former ATT Long Lines Building at 32 Avenue of the Americas (1999-2002), the redevelopment of 130 West 12 th Street (2010-2011), and the development of The Greenwich Lane (2006-2016).  He is also intimately involved with Rudin’s latest project, Dock 72, a ground up 675,000 foot office building located in the Brooklyn Navy Yard where ground was broken in April of 2016. This project is a joint venture with WeWork and Boston Properties and will be completed in 2018. He is acknowledged nationally as an industry thought leader in the integration of technology into the built environment. As a co-inventor of Nantum® building operating system and Executive Chairman of Prescriptive Data, his vision is to future proof real estate by giving all buildings a 'brain'.

Mark Young

Mark D. Young is a leading authority on national security, intelligence, and advanced technology, having played a critical role in the oversight and development of the nation’s intelligence and cybersecurity policies, plans, and operations. Mr. Young is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Credibility, LLC – an advanced artificial intelligence firm that evaluates the reliability of source material for the mass media, information, and financial business sectors. He was the first Chief Security Officer and executive member of the Senior Leadership Team at IronNet Cybersecurity, Inc., an advanced technology, consulting, and cloud computing firm serving the information security and advanced analytics needs of clients in the financial, healthcare, electric power, and national security business sectors. He closed the largest financial sector contract in the firm’s history. He is a recognized thought leader on security policy, technical innovation, and cybersecurity. With more than 25 years national security experience, Mr. Young held several leadership positions within the public and private sectors. In 2013, he co-founded an intelligence-based cybersecurity firm that generated immediate revenue. After rapid acquisition, Mr. Young was a senior executive for the acquiring private sector cyber services company. His leadership and expertise provided opportunities to conduct high-profile cyber war games for The Washington Post and Zurich Insurance. He also provides technical commentary on Bloomberg News programs such as In the Loop and Bloomberg West. Prior to establishing and leading two successful start-ups, Mr. Young served as the Executive Director for the Directorate for Plans and Policy at U.S. Cyber Command leading strategy, policy, and military planning initiatives for Department of Defense intelligence and cyberspace operations. As the senior civilian in the 300-person directorate, he was responsible for crises coordination across multiple civilian, military, and law enforcement departments and agencies. Mr. Young was an advisor to the Director of the National Security Agency (NSA) and led the Command’s interagency interactions as the representative to National Security Council working groups. Mr. Young also served as the Special Counsel for Defense Intelligence on the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence at the U.S. House of Representatives. He was responsible for oversight of highly sensitive U.S. intelligence programs, to include covert action, cyber operations, counterterrorism, and enemy combatant adjudication. He managed more than $25B in Military Intelligence Program funds, monitored major defense-program performance, and was the principal interface with the Senate and House Armed Services Committees. Before serving on the congressional staff, Mr. Young was a senior civilian at the National Security Agency’s Legislative Affairs Office and significantly improved the NSA relationship with the national security committees within the House of Representatives. As a Naval Officer, he served as a military aide to the first NSA Signals Intelligence Director and worked closely with the National Security Council, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the Central Intelligence Agency, and multiple foreign intelligence partners. Mr. Young is a former U.S. Navy enlisted Electronics Technician, and served as a naval aviator flying the Northrop Grumman E-2C Hawkeye. Mr. Young received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Norwich University in 1992. In 2002, he received a Master of Science in Strategic Intelligence from the Joint Military Intelligence College. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland School of Law in 2006. Mr. Young is a member of the Maryland Bar and has published in the Journal of National Security Law and Policy and the Stanford Law and Policy Review. He is a Lecturer at the University of Maryland’s School of public Policy and a Senior Fellow at George Washington University’s Center for Cyber and Homeland Security. Mr. Young is a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Brian is a senior physician executive serving as the founder and CEO of Lacuna Health, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Kindred Healthcare. Brian is a frequent speaker in the area of post-acute care and population health. In 2018, Brian was recognized by Health Data Management as one of the 30 top chief innovation officers at healthcare organizations as well as being selected to the “Council of 33” by the Healthcare Innovators Professional Society (HIPS). Brian joined Kindred from Highmark Health, the third-largest integrated healthcare delivery and financing network in the nation. Most recently, Brian led the formation of HM Home and Community Services (“HMHCS”) and served as President of the organization. HMHCS has since helped drive improved clinical outcomes, better patient experience and a reduced overall cost of care for a Pennsylvania ACO and a health insurer’s Medicare Advantage line of business. Previously, Brian led the post-acute care operations at the Allegheny Health Network (“AHN”), a western Pennsylvania-based integrated healthcare delivery system under the Highmark Health umbrella. At AHN, Brian led the development and operations of AHN Healthcare@Home, resulting in a hospital system-driven continuum of care model consisting of home health, hospice, home medical equipment and home infusion. Brian has also held positions in healthcare consulting and various strategy, operations, and sales and marketing roles in the biotechnology industry. He received a medical degree from the Drexel School of Medicine and an MBA with a major in healthcare management from the Wharton School of Business.

Jenny Schretter

Jenny serves as Director at Dreamit where she manages Dreamit's startup acceleration cycles across multiple industry verticals and cities. She is responsible for overseeing all components of Dreamit’s acceleration programs from evaluation and selection of startups for each cycle and as potential investments for Dreamit through completion of the startups’ next funding rounds. Prior to Dreamit, Jenny was an Associate at Goldman Sachs where she sourced, evaluated, and built relationships with entrepreneurs, early and growth stage companies, and investors. She later served as interim Chief of Staff at a machine learning company following their Series C funding. Prior to Goldman Sachs, Jenny launched and ran an international jewelry business for five years, served as an independent consultant for marketplace and consumer technology start-ups, and interned at NextGen Venture Partners, where she screened investment opportunities, performed due diligence, and assisted with fundraising and portfolio management. She began her career on Wall Street as an interdealer broker at Tullett Prebon and ICAP plc. She subsequently pursued psychophysiology research and coursework at Harvard University while writing a 93,000-word commercial fiction novel. Jenny graduated magna cum laude from Boston College with a BA in Sociology and holds an MBA from the University of Virginia Darden School of Business.

James Nozar

Nozar also worked as a real estate consultant for Ernst & Young and RCLCO after receiving a Bachelor of Science in Building Construction and Certificate in City Planning from the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Daniel Vukmer

Dan Vukmer came to USF Health from Ohio State University where he was chief executive officer overseeing all aspects of a 60,000-member health plan covering faculty, staff and dependents of the university. With more than 20 years in the health care field as an attorney and managed care executive, he has ample experience meeting the challenges of a dynamic health care system and capitalizing on opportunities for growth and additional sources of revenue. At USF Health, he defines and connects with existing and emerging clinical partners to develop value in the clinical enterprise and to help grow USF Health in both scale and scope. He is also collaborating with others on the leadership team to build clinically integrated networks (CINs) needed to transition from a fee-for-service to a value-based model of care -- one that can augment USF Health’s research and education missions while cost-effectively delivering health and medical services across the Tampa Bay region. Before OSU, Dan served as senior vice president of business development and chief legal officer at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). He assisted in developing one of the largest provider-owned health plans in the United States, which covered more than two million lives and produced more than $4 billion in yearly revenue to UPMC. Prior to UPMC, he was a merger and acquisition attorney at several large international and regional firms with a primary emphasis on health care transactions. Dan received his Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry and computer science from Juniata College, and graduated with a Juris Doctor degree cum laude from Widener University School of Law, Delaware.

Mike is a healthcare executive with extensive experience in marketing, business development and product management.  He has served in leadership roles providing vision and hands on execution for venture-backed, privately-funded and public healthcare technology and services organizations.  While at Health Integrated (a technology-enabled population health management company acquired by EXL Service), Mike held roles as SVP, Product Management, Marketing & Business Development; VP, Growth Operations; and VP, Marketing & Strategic Partnerships. Mike also had key positions at Guidant Corporation (a cardiovascular technology company acquired by Boston Scientific and Abbott Labs) in the minimally-invasive cardiac surgery, interventional cardiology and electrophysiology businesses, including launching products worldwide, earning a patent and implanting defibrillators.  Mike also enjoyed roles in Guidant’s venture capital group and as a consultant with Accenture. Mike has an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a BSE in biomedical and electrical engineering from Duke University.

Through the Independence Center for Health Care Innovation, Tom leads the company’s efforts to identify external sources of innovation to support the company’s objectives and to help curate a dialog among institutions across the health care ecosystem to address some of the largest issues impacting the cost and quality of healthcare. He manages the company’s innovation project portfolio and rapid innovation and prototyping methodology. Dan Rothman

Dan Rothman has served as Chief Information Officer of Roivant Sciences, Inc. since April 2017. From 2008 to 2017, he was a Managing Director at Goldman Sachs, where he was Head of Digital Structuring, Head of the Americas Client Strategy Group, Head of Credit and Mortgage Sales Strats, and Head of Power Sales. In those positions, he was responsible for the development of internal and external technology platforms, leveraging analytics and data mining tools to optimize various corporate services. Mr. Rothman previously served as a Managing Director at Lehman Brothers and Head of Global Foreign Exchange Derivatives Trading at Banque Nationale de Paris. Fluent in French, Mr. Rothman received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering and his M.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from MIT.

Linda Elkins

Linda Elkins’ career spans 17 years, where she’s served in multiple roles at W.L. Gore. In the Sunnyvale, CA based Medical Products Division, she led new product development teams from ideation to commercial launch; drove technical resourcing for manufacturing engineering; and owns 2 patents, including work on endovascular repair of aneurysms approximate to side branch vessels. She made a short career pivot as a professional triathlete, where she competed in Ironman Hawaii multiple times as well as several International World Championship races. Linda earned an MS in both Biomedical and Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan, and a BS in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame. Linda dedicated the past 2 years to the creation and launch of the Silicon Valley Innovation Center, where she took it from its original concept to the facility’s execution, completion and launch. Now, she’s working to integrate complementary emerging technologies that expand Gore’s capabilities to create new product opportunities within the Silicon Valley ecosystem, advancing Gore’s mission of transforming industries and improving lives. Linda is particularly looking to develop relationships with partners in academia, the startup community, and venture capital, pursuing strategic partnerships in Gore’s specific focus areas.

Gina Evans has served as the Director of Government Relations for the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority since December of 2012. In this role, Ms. Evans represents the Authority’s four airports at the local, state, and federal level. Prior to joining the Authority, Ms. Evans specialized in gaming legislation, higher education, and healthcare while serving as the Director of Government Affairs at the Brewton-Plante Law Firm in Tallahassee and as the Senior Legislative Assistant to Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives Larry Cretul.
