Shawn W. Cloonan serves as Chief Operating Officer, Executive Vice President of Texas Medical Center. In his role, he is responsible for all operations, planning and development as well as oversight of legal aspects of the corporation including compliance with the TMC covenants. Prior to his current role, Cloonan was Texas Medical Center’s Executive Vice President, Planning & Development, General Counsel. Before joining the organization in 2013, Cloonan was a public finance lawyer representing health care, governmental and higher education clients for Vinson & Elkins LLP and Bracewell LLP. He holds a Bachelor of Arts – Magna Cum Laude in government from the University of Texas at Austin and earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence with Honors from The University of Texas School of Law. He is on the board of directors of the Housing Corporation of Greater Houston, a member of the Community Investment Committee of the United Way of Greater Houston, and an associate member of the First Tee of Greater Houston and Houston Junior Golf Association. Michelle Riley-Brown is Executive Vice President at Texas Children’s Hospital and President of Texas Children’s Hospital The Woodlands, and Texas Children’s Hospital West Campus. In her leadership roles, Michelle leads Texas Children’s community hospitals, primary care practices, urgent care centers and the sub-specialty Health Centers in the community. She is a native of New Orleans, Louisiana, where she attended Tulane University for her undergraduate degree and Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri, for her master’s degree in Healthcare Administration. Following a short tenure in the insurance industry, Michelle joined Texas Children’s Hospital in 1999 as an Administrative Fellow and has held various leadership roles within the organization ever since. She led the planning and development of Texas Children’s Hospital West Campus, Texas Children’s first community hospital which opened in 2010, and most recently led the planning efforts for Texas Children’s Hospital The Woodlands, which opened in April 2017. Michelle is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE). She also serves on various boards and committees in the Houston and Woodlands communities. She is married to her loving husband James E. Brown and is the proud mother of her 8-year-old daughter Sarah Elizabeth. Michelle enjoys spending time with her family and traveling.

James Corbett, M.DIV., J.D.

James Corbett, M.Div., J.D, is a seasoned healthcare executive bringing over a decade of c-level leadership experience from both the for-profit and the non-profit sectors of the industry. James has served as a fellow at Harvard Medical School Department of Global Health and Social Medicine as well as Harvard’s Safra Center for Ethics and currently is serving as a fellow of the Nashville Healthcare Council. In addition he is currently serving a 4-year term on the National Institute of Health’s National Advisory Council for Nursing Research; having been honored to receive the appointment from former Health and Human Services Secretary, Kathleen Sebellius. His for-profit and non-profit experience comes from serving in four health systems, in this capacity his focus has been providing strategic and operational leadership for behavioral health, consumer segmentation, population health, hospital re-design, hospital-housing development, research, innovation, global health, advocacy and ethics. James’s work around health system network composition has encompassed efforts in multiple states partnering with organizations to analyze appropriate asset utilization, diversification and analysis of bed need, and repurposing of an organizations bricks and mortar assets. Corbett has also lectured at Harvard Medical School, Harvard’s School of Public Health and numerous other universities across the country. James has been published in multiple books and journals. Mr. Corbett earned his B.S. in International Relations from Syracuse University, followed by his Juris Doctorate from St. Johns University and a Master of Divinity from Duke University.

He spent 21 years in the Navy, with tours of duty that include: Assistant Resident Officer in Charge of Construction, Rota, Spain; Bravo Company Commander and Detail Officer in Charge, Port Hueneme, California (Naval Mobile Construction Battalion FOUR); Officer in Charge - Metro Field Office, Special Programs Office, Washington DC (White House Military Office); Public Works Officer, Pacific Missile Range Facility Barking Sands, Kauai, Hawaii; Political Engagement Officer, Kabul, Afghanistan; Operations Officer, Kabul, Afghanistan (NATO International Security Assistance Force); Officer in Charge, Facilities Engineering Acquisitions Division, Coronado, California, Assistant Operations Officer, Coastal Integrated Product Team, San Diego, California, and Resident Officer in Charge of Construction, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton Hospital Replacement Program. Whit Robinson holds professional licenses for both Architecture and Interior Design in the State of Florida. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Early in his career, Whit Robinson worked as an architectural draftsman for various Florida architectural firms, lead designer for a kitchen and bath design firm, and has owned his own interior design business in Miami. He has also worked as a project manager/developer for several related corporations in the Miami area, performing small and large-scale renovations on a variety of businesses for short-fused customer requirements. His personal achievements include the Golden Key National Honor Society; various academic and architectural honor societies (University of Miami); the American Institute of Architects Bronze Medal for excellence in architectural design and leadership (State of Florida, 1993); President and Founder of the Habitat for Humanity chapter at the University of Miami; Winner of the 2002 Witters Bridge Design Competition (University of Florida); and Winner of the 2003 Ulla B. Rydberg Award for Social Justice in Planning (University of Florida). His team won the California Team Excellence Award for 2011 for lean process innovation with the construction of the Camp Pendleton Hospital Replacement program and placed in the International Team Excellence Award competition for the American Society for Quality in 2012. His current team at MD Anderson was unanimously voted Client of the Year by the Society for Marketing Professional Services in 2017. Ms. Houghton comes from a varied background with experience in asset and joint venture management, acquisitions, dispositions, and corporate cash modeling and valuation. From August 2006 to December 2009, Ms. Houghton served as the Manager of Joint Ventures for Glenborough LLC in San Mateo, California, where she actively managed over two million square feet of retail/office properties and 400 acres of development land. Between July 2004 and August 2005, she served as a Senior Project Analyst for Weyerhaeuser Realty Investors in Irvine, California. Jill Pearsall is the Vice President over Facilities Planning & Development and Real Estate Services at Texas Children’s Hospital. She has leadership responsibility for real estate strategy, transaction and acquisition, lease administration, facilities planning, project management and support programs, covering all aspects of feasibility, planning, design, construction, and project delivery as well as on-going support programs of artwork, signage, interiors, logistics, space management, and facilities information and statistics. Jill is a licensed architect in Texas and California and holds a certificate from the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB). Jill joined Texas Children’s Hospital in 2002 wrapping up the 1998 facilities expansion that added 1.2 million square feet to the Texas Children’s campus. Through the organization’s 2005 Special Strategic Plan and subsequent Vision 2010 facilities expansion (a four building, 2.4 million square feet, $1.13 billion, 6 year initiative), Jill remained intimately involved in planning, developing and executing the Vision. Jill was also directly involved in the development of the second Texas Children’s pediatric community hospital campus in The Woodlands, Texas, a $360 million development which opened in April 2017. Currently Jill leads the development of the 19 story vertical expansion of Legacy Tower on Texas Children’s main Texas Medical Center campus, a 640,000 square foot, $506 million project, part of a $575 million expansion focused on critical care, surgery and emergency services. Jill serves on several organizational committees, including Environmental Safety, Emergency Management, Facilities Executive, Executive Space Management and Capital Management, and is a key member on many task forces. Jill is a graduate of the University of Southern California with a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture. Prior to switching to facilities management and joining the healthcare industry, she spent several years as a practicing architect in both California and Texas, working primarily for commercial and institutional clients.

Dr. Carrie Byington

Carrie L. Byington, MD, serves as Dean of the Texas A&M College of Medicine, Senior Vice President of the Texas A&M University Health Science Center and Vice Chancellor for Health Services at The Texas A&M University System. She is the first Mexican American female to hold the position of dean and senior vice president for an academic medical center in the United States. Dr. Byington joined Texas A&M in 2017 after a 21-year career at the University of Utah, where she was the H.A. and Edna Benning Presidential Professor of Pediatrics, Vice Dean for Academic Affairs and Faculty Development in the School of Medicine, and Associate Vice President for Faculty and Academic Affairs at the University of Utah Health Sciences Center. A federally funded investigator with continuous support as principal or co-investigator totaling about $80 million since 1998, Dr. Byington’s research spans the translational spectrum from basic laboratory science to health services research and has focused primarily on bacterial and viral respiratory pathogens in children. Her scholarship led to the co-invention of FilmArray, a novel diagnostic platform for the identification of infectious pathogens and antimicrobial resistance with BioFire Diagnostics of Salt Lake City, later acquired by bioMérieux. The FilmArray is used in hospitals in the United States, Europe, and Asia and has changed the landscape for infectious diseases diagnostics and research. Her research background in translational science also led to the development of the Utah Center for Clinical and Translational Science, a member of the National Institutes of Health Clinical and Translational Science Award national consortium since 2008. A respected physician with a strong dedication to increasing access to care, Dr. Byington has devoted her career to providing excellent care to underserved women and children, particularly those living in poverty. She co-founded the South Main Clinic at the University of Utah, which serves the most at-risk populations in Salt Lake County including recent immigrants, refugees, pregnant teens, and children living in foster care. The clinic, which has won national awards for care delivery, also focuses on strengthening families by helping to address the social determinant of health including screening for violence, ensuring food and housing security, assisting with transportation and offering dental and legal services in a general medical clinic. To address literacy needs, Dr. Byington opened a library in the clinic in 1998. The children's library bearing her name became a county-supported public library in 2008. A nationally-renowned physician scientist, Dr. Byington has had numerous career accomplishments including awards from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the National Institutes of Health. Notably, she is an elected member of the National Academy of Medicine and serves as Chair of the American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on Infectious Diseases. She also served as Chair of the Infectious Diseases Advisory Group to the U.S. Olympic Committee and was tasked with protecting Team USA athletes and staff during the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Dr. Byington holds board certification and national recognition in both General Pediatrics and Pediatric Infectious Diseases. She received her Bachelor of Science in biology from Texas A&M University in 1985 and Doctor of Medicine from Baylor College of Medicine in 1989, both with honors. She trained in pediatrics at Texas Children’s Hospital and in pediatric infectious diseases at the University of California, San Francisco. With a return to her alma matter, Dr. Byington is determined to transform health care delivery in Texas in an effort to eliminate health disparities. Specifically, she is focused on three priority areas: improving rural population health through innovative care delivery, providing care to active duty military and veterans through education, research and service, and collaborating with the College of Engineering to develop and implement new technologies and innovations to support health care in the 21st century.

James Bretting

Senior care has been a passion of Carl’s ever since he watched his grandfather, a decorated WWII Marine Corps Tank Commander, pass away in a Medicaid bed at a nursing home. At the time, Carl was just a young man starting out in business and there was only so much he and his family could do to care for “Papa” with the resources the family had. Carl’s mother, a long time single mom working hard to support her family, acted as Papa’s caregiver in the evenings while she worked her full time job during the days. Eventually Papa’s care needs were too severe and the family had to move him into a state funded facility. Soon thereafter, Carl devoted his career to serving seniors. As Managing Partner, Mr. Jackson is responsible for the corporate strategy and overall direction of HealthCap as well as the structuring and management of all real estate investments. He has spent the majority of his 20 year career specializing in healthcare real estate, working with a wide variety of companies ranging from national for-profit healthcare systems and regional non-profit hospitals to specialty care operators and private physician group practices. Mr. Jackson previously served as Managing Director of HealthCap, as well as Senior Vice President and Development Manager of HealthCap’s predecessor, The Cirrus Group. Before HealthCap, he held regional leadership and development positions with national healthcare real estate companies including Lend Lease Group (ASX:LLC) and Hammes Company. Prior to entering the healthcare real estate industry, Mr. Jackson served in general management and business development roles for a newly launched retail energy provider affiliate of a Fortune 500 diversified energy company and for two early-stage Internet companies backed by Sevin Rosen Funds and Goff Moore Strategic Partners. Mr. Jackson holds an M.B.A. from Southern Methodist University and a B.A. from The University of Texas at Austin. He is also a Texas-licensed real estate broker. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and children, hunting, fishing and is an avid long-distance runner.

Mr. Noto has been with the company since September 2001.
