What You'll Learn

  1. How far is investment in Manchester a gold rush trip to the wild (North) West? Or is Manchester, as many UK funds argue, the ultimate safe bet?
  2. How can Manchester absorb more investment whilst tackling the byproducts (i.e. affordability, mobility, sustainability) of urban growth?
  3. How are hotel owners and operators expanding social spaces, engaging with local communities, and contributing to placemaking efforts? Is an integration of co-working the answer?
  4. What type of planning regulations are needed for a full regional spatial framework to work?
  5. What type of transport improvements are needed so that Manchester can become a place where families and students remain in the city center to live and work?

Why This Matters

Manchester aka "Manc-hattan" is a booming city on the verge to become a major global player.

Compared to other European cities,  Manchester's GVA growth is almost 5-6x times greater annually, according to the Centre for Economics and Business Research. No wonder why real estate investors have been moving in fast.

This year's State of the Market event will examine what’s behind this rush of activity, and how contractors and developers are keeping up with the opportunities and challenges the city represents. We want to explore Manchester's medium-term economic forecast and discuss the regulatory and infrastructure changes that are needed in order to grow the city into a global hub where not only temporary visitors but more importantly students and families want to remain in the city center to work, live and play.
