Event Summary

Last year was a seismic 12 months for retail, and 2018 has not seen any let up in terms of frantic activity and change. Some major consolidations happened such as Unibail-Rodamco’s purchase of Westfield; and some didn’t like Hammerson and Intu. International retailers like Toys R Us went bust, and online giant Amazon made its brick-and-mortar debut with the acquisition of Wholefoods. While these instances shed a light on the larger overall trends and themes, the aim of this program is to dive deep and hear from active real estate investors, entrepreneurs and tenants about their thoughts on retail in London and the wider country. As

Deloitte's Retail Trends 2018

points out, there are three major trends the retail industry needs to be aware of: 1. The blurring lines between online and offline retail, 2. Retailers need to reduce costs and increase efficiency, and 3. The importance

of

experimenting with experience and choosing the right concept that will guarantee

sustainable returns. This event will discuss many of these hot trends regarding the state of retail and how the CRE community is reacting!
