DFW Senior Housing Boom

Matt has 15 years of experience with Erickson Living, a leading manager & developer of senior living communities in the nation, and has served as the VP/Executive Director of Highland Springs for the past 7 years. Highland Springs serves 1,100 residents on a 90 acre campus, with a full continuum of care in North Dallas. The master plan for Highland Springs is to reach a capacity of 2,000 residents over the next 10 years. Matt’s early focus with Erickson Living was within start-up operations, opening communities in Chicago and Denver. Prior to joining Erickson, Matt held leadership positions in accounting and finance within the public and private sector while living in the Chicago suburbs. Matt earned a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Illinois State University and holds a CPA designation.

Dr. Albert L. Reyes is the sixth President and CEO of Buckner International. He previously served as president of Buckner Children and Family Services. Prior to his tenure at Buckner, Albert was president of Baptist University of the Américas in San Antonio. He also has served as pastor of three churches and as a manager for Sprint’s National Customer Service Call Center. Albert and his wife, Belinda, have three children. They are members of Park Cities Baptist Church in Dallas.

Shawn Corzine has become a well-respected leader in the senior living industry over the past 15 years. Having begun on the community level and then moving to a Regional and Vice- Presidential roles before becoming the CEO of Trilogy Senior Living in 2013, Shawn has a tremendous amount of hands-on experience in what it takes to lead a successful and thriving senior living community. In 2019, Shawn launched SilverPoint Senior Living, which is a new operations company focused on managing and operating communities in the new landscape of senior living. Their Engaged Living program will bring an innovative and transformative approach to senior living. Over the past 5 years, Shawn has served on the Board of Directors for the Texas Assisted Living Association and is currently serving as the Vice-Chair of the Board for 2019. During his time at TALA, Shawn has helped influence some very important legislation that directly impacts the Assisted Living industry in Texas.

Melissa is currently the President and CEO of The Legacy Senior Communities, a Jewish faith based continuum care community in Dallas, Texas. She was previously the COO/CFO of Greenhill School, a co- educational independent school serving 1,300 students, pre-kindergarten through 12th grades, in Addison, Texas, from 2000 – 2017. She earned her B.B.A. from Kansas State University in 1986 and is a certified public accountant. Prior to joining Greenhill, she was the Vice President of Finance for the National Office of the American Heart Association and was a senior manager in the audit and business advisory division of Arthur Andersen, LLP. Melissa currently serves as a board member and Treasurer for the Enrollment Management Association, a national agency serving independent schools, and is also a board member and Treasurer for the St. Philip’s School and Community Center. Additionally, she serves as a board member of Leading Age Texas, a member association providing professional development and advocacy services to not for profit senior service organizations. Melissa also serves as a member of the finance committee for the Texas Women’s Foundation. Previously, Melissa served as a member of the board of directors for the National Business Officers Association from 2009 until 2017, serving as Chair the last two years of her service. She is a past board member and Treasurer for Planned Parenthood of North Texas and past finance committee member of the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Mary Greer is a longtime leader in multifamily and senior living marketing. Her 15+ years in the industry led her to Engrain in 2016, where she currently serves as both National Account Executive and the authority on senior living sales technology. From tailored touchscreen sales to inventory visualization, Mary’s impact on the industry is seen in the groundbreaking software solutions she delivers to her clients. Prior to joining Engrain, Mary spent three years as a Director of Marketing at Greenbrier Development, and another four at Omnium Management as Director of Leasing. Her multi-market expertise fortifies her mission to elevate the senior living sales experience—a fresh and much needed force in an industry eager to adopt innovation.

Siobhan has nearly two decades of experience creating a diversity of environments ranging from commercial office buildings, student housing, K-12, to senior living. Her approach at D2 Architecture, working in close collaboration with multiple teams, is an integrated process that weaves together the disciplines of planning, architecture, interior design and landscape architecture for projects across the United States. From conceptual design development, Siobhan satisfies complex project requirements and maximizes design opportunities as seen as such projects as Ventana by Buckner, The Legacy at Midtown Park and The Stayton in Fort Worth. Siobhan remains involved in every phase of the design process and is committed to realizing project goals while working closely alongside the project team. Siobhan holds a Bachelor of Design in Architecture from the University of Florida and provides leadership at D2 as an Associate Principal. She is passionate about providing better environments for living and is an active participant in D2’s Sleepover Project where she has spent 24 hours in a senior living community as a resident. She speaks regularly at industry conferences including Environments for Aging, CREW, and InterFace about the importance of integrating senior housing into mixed- use environments.

Clay has over 30 years’ experience as a business development/operations management professional. His career is one marked by ever greater responsibilities and noteworthy accomplishment. His strong foundation in project management, combined with a unique ability to understand and communicate with people at all levels, creates an environment leading to exceptional service and quality results for our clients. As Vice President, Clay provides leadership in the development of client relationships and the pursuit of new business across all of our commercial construction service areas including office, retail, warehouse and medical offices. He is focused on delivering superior service by understanding our existing and potential client’s needs and connecting the precise resources necessary to deliver the greatest value to each project. He works closely with our clients to define high quality, cost effective solutions through intelligent preconstruction preparation and focused project management.

KATHRYN BURTON GRAY is Head of Health Care and Senior Managing Director for Hunt Real Estate Capitol. She joined Hunt Reol Estate Capitol in January 2018. She is responsible for overseeing Hunt's financing and private placement activities in the health care sector, including real estate proprietary bridge lending and FHA loans. Her areas of expertise include the longterm care sector of the health core industry with a focus on underwriting and portfolio responsibilities. Ms. Burton Gray has over 34 years of banking experience in both large commercial banking platforms, including Wells Fargo Bank, as well as smaller regional and community banks. Prior to joining HUNT, she worked for finance companies, including CIT Group, GE, Finova Capital, and most recently Red Capital Group/ORIX where she led the national Seniors and Healthcare real estate platform in the Commercial Finance Division and was responsible for originations in the seniors housing and skilled nursing space. Ms. Burton Gray serves on the Foundation Board of Mission Hospital, a St. Joseph's Hospital subsidiary, Taught for the Princeton Review for SAT, LSAT, MCAT, GRE, and GMAT; and participated on many other industry specific boards including Executive Board positions with ASHA (American Senior Housing Association), and Ull's Seniors Housing council (Urban Land Institute). Her past board memberships have included HCap, LTC 100, CALA, ALFA-Argentum, and the NIC Advisory Committee.

Elena’s area of expertise is in the healthcare and senior housing sectors of real estate. Her clients include physicians, multispecialty groups, hospitals, developers, senior housing operators and owners, and private investors. She is assisting her clients with acquisitions/dispositions, asset evaluations and site selections within Texas as well as with leases in Houston’s market. BUSINESS BACKGROUND Prior to joining Colliers in 2014, Elena was a Senior Healthcare Real Estate Advisor with Coldwell Banker Commercial Healthcare Services Group. Elena’s past career as a cancer research scientist with renowned cancer centers and research institutions has led her to choose her core areas of specialization. Being actively involved with the healthcare industry through American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), Medical Group Management Association (MGMA), Argentum and other organizations helps her to stay updated with the needs of these industries and to better serve her clients. Elena is a frequent speaker at Healthcare and Senior Housing conferences and a contributor to Colliers Houston Healthcare reports. Since 2018, with the support of Colliers Houston research and marketing teams, Elena has been writing Texas Senior Housing reports.

As the Founder of Basharkhah Engineering, Inc., Sam Basharkhah is involved, not only in the day to day operation of the company, but also in the design and production phases of nearly every project. Mr. Basharkhah is a registered Professional Engineer with over 40 years of experience in the fields of consulting engineering and mechanical contracting. His extensive hands-on experience gives BEI an edge; specifically in renovation projects requiring survey of existing conditions, in cost estimating, and in construction administration. A list of their recent projects includes the renovation of the historic Statler Hilton Hotel in Downtown Dallas and numerous other health care, residential, commercial office and retail, educational, correctional, municipal, high tech, and food service. Mr. Basharkhah is a graduate of Southern Methodist University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
