Time To Build A Second M50?

Placeholder

It could be time to start building a second M50 orbital motorway.

So said Dublin Mid-West TD John Curran, just a day after Transport Infrastructure Ireland ruled out the move, Journal.ie reports.

Curran argued that an outer orbital route would help open up more housing development sites.

The call comes as traffic volumes continue to grow at most M50 junctions. Official figures show that average daily volumes are already up to 142,000 to 143,000 on key junctions 6-9. At the Castlenock junction, volumes have risen by 5.1% since 2016, whilst they are up 2.8% at Palmerstown.

Overall volumes have grown by about 30% since 2010, resulting in many tales of commuter woe.
