Meet Debi Carter, Capstone Commercial's New Partner
Debi Carter recently joined Capstone Commercial Health Services as a partner to specialize in leasing and sales of medical and dental offices. Debi will head Capstone’s recently formed health services division. We caught up with Debi to get to know her and hear more about her new role.
Bisnow: How are things going so far in your new role as health services partner at Capstone?
Debi: Capstone is a good fit for me with its collaborative and entrepreneurial atmosphere. The healthcare business is great. We’ve already gotten a leasing assignment for medical office space owned by Healthcare REIT in the Baylor Scott & White MOB in Frisco, just south of Baylor Scott & White’s new sports medicine facility. We’re also working on several new medical office development projects.
Bisnow: What are you most looking forward to about joining Capstone?
Debi: I’m excited to be given the opportunity to build a healthcare client base. Help promote their properties. I’ve been working in this space for 15 years, but the difference now is that I’ll be heading up a whole division of healthcare brokers and agents. I now have the resources to offer more exposure from the landlord perspective, which helps me expand my base.
Bisnow: What inning are we in?
Debi: Eighth, but we could go into overtime. Several indications show we’re overbuilding in multifamily and that overbuilding is creeping into office. We’re not overbuilt in healthcare—though maybe in ER centers.
Hometown: The Soybean Capital of the World: Decatur, IL.
Why Dallas? I came to Dallas because the Midwest was going through a recession. I was given an opportunity in Dallas and never looked back. I currently live in North Dallas.
First job: I babysat for 50 cents per hour.
Alma mater: I have a bachelor's of science in economics and finance from the University of Texas at Dallas.
Family life: I’ve been married for 30 years to a previous tenant, and we have two daughters. My husband invented laser tag, so that’s how we met.
Favorite restaurant in DFW: Adelmo’s Ristorante
Favorite travel destination: Tuscany (where the photo above was taken with Debi, left, and her friend Rosi Roth)
Texas in three words: Exciting booming economy
Favorite celebrity: I consider Emmitt Smith an ideal mentor type for his CRE accomplishments, football discipline and family-oriented thinking. He’s CCIM like me and I’ve seen him speak at a couple of events.
Favorite spot for a business lunch: Houston’s
Favorite hobby: I travel the world taking watercolor classes. I’ve been to San Miguel de Allende in Mexico, Hilton Head Island in South Carolina, France and all over the world. I’ve always been interested in art.
Professional organizations: I’m a CCIM and I’m in Dallas Real Estate Ministries. (She's pictured here manning the CCIM booth at a NTCAR expo between McClure Partners' Susan McClure and Swearingen's Chris Mims.)
CRE is never boring because: We’re dealing with people. It’s the people factor that makes it unpredictable. My favorite part of the industry is meeting new people and helping them.
