Summer Target For Edgewater Medical Center Redevelopment

Redevelopment of the long-vacant Edgewater Medical Center could commence as early as summer, if developers get the go-ahead from the city. MCZ Development's Todd Mullen updated residents on the project's progress at a community meeting last week and said turning the building into apartments would be complete in Q1 2018, if demolition and cleanup is done by the end of the year.

Edgewater Medical Center has been vacant for 15 years. MCZ wants to redevelop the site into 141 apartments. The firm sold part of the site to the city in January; it will be developed into green space by the Park District, according to DNAInfo.

Mullen says demolition of surrounding structures is on schedule for July, once asbestos removal and rat extermination is complete. He wants to redevelop the main hospital building because its infrastructure lends itself perfectly for multifamily. 10% of the units will be set aside for affordable housing. [DNA]
