Life Time Athletic Charlotte, an athletic resort and fitness destination, is opening a new facility in South Charlotte in December, just in time for those New Year’s resolutions.

The new facility is Life Time Athletic’s 129th location, and its third in Charlotte. It is part of a nationwide expansion: More than 30 destinations are planned for the next 30 months. Life Time operates 129 centers in 27 states and 35 major markets in the United States and Canada. The first Life Time in the Nashville market will open by the end of the year and its first Seattle and Oklahoma City locations will open in 2018. Additional expansion is happening in Philadelphia, Boston, Houston, Dallas and other locations.

The Charlotte location will be at 11220 Golf Links Drive on 24 acres, within Lincoln HarrisRea Farms, a 188-acre mixed-use development. The property includes Links at Rea Farms with 455 apartments, 250 single-family houses and plans for 500K SF of office space. A hotel is also in the works, but Lincoln Farms has not released which brand.

Life Time Athletic Charlotte will offer an upscale option for health and wellness with a variety of services for members. “I think it will greatly impact the community,” Life Time Athletic Charlotte General Manager Johnny Groff said. “It’s something the Charlotte community has wanted for a long time and has asked for. Charlotte is a very active, fitness-focused community.”

The Life Spa will have six massage rooms, offering light and deep tissue massages and hair, skincare and nail services. The men’s and women’s locker rooms each feature private saunas and steam rooms. The facility will have 10 indoor tennis courts and ten outdoor tennis courts, with an outdoor patio overlooking the courts.

Other amenities, such as a restaurant, a Kids Academy (with its own children’s programming), an outdoor pool with two water slides, a lap pool and gradual-entry leisure indoor and outdoor pools and group fitness classes will make it family-friendly. According to Groff, they hope people will spend more time at the facility and view it as a country club environment.
