Target To Roll Out New-Format Store In Stoneham

Placeholder

Target Corp is planning a 48k SF “flexible format” store at 109 Main St in Stoneham, in Redstone Shopping Center. The format, which is a major part of Target's plans to have more stores in urban areas, is mainly distinctive for its size: less than 50k SF, compared with an average store size of 170k SF, the Boston Business Journal reports.

Target is planning to open 27 flexible format stores in the next three years, and as part of that plan, the retail giant is proceeding with growth in urban Boston. A 16k SF Target opened at 860 Commonwealth Ave near BU in July, while a more standard-sized (160k SF) store opened at 1341 Boylston St in the Fenway neighborhood in June 2015.

In March 2017, Target will open a 21k SF store at 564 Mass Ave in Cambridge’s Central Square, and the Stoneham store will open next July. [BBJ]
