Gov. Larry Hogan announced his official support for Baltimore's Port Covington as Maryland's best chance to land Amazon's HQ2.

In a press conference Friday, Hogan promised an incentive package of state dollars, much of it geared toward giving Sagamore Development's site the transit option that Amazon listed as a requirement in its RFP, the Washington Business Journal reports.

"I believe this is the best location, and Baltimore City could use the shot in the arm," Hogan said.

Port Covington is already the planned location for Under Armour's $5B world headquarters, and the apparel company's CEO Kevin Plank — who owns Sagamore Development — believes Amazon would find a "perfect home" as his neighbor. Hogan promised tax breaks and transportation funding to help make it happen.

"No question about it, this is about thousands of new jobs and attracting a new corporate headquarters ... and it is certainly worth the investment of some state dollars," Hogan said.

With Hogan's backing of a Baltimore site, Maryland's Washington, D.C., suburbs may lose a bit of their luster — or be forced to play nice as part of a D.C.-area joint bid. College Park, the home of the University of Maryland, and just a few miles from D.C.'s border, plans to submit its own bid for HQ2.
