Big shout-out to new sponsor Miller & Long.  Established in 1947, they were named the #1 concrete construction company in the US for the 4th year in a row by ENR magazine.  Welcome aboard!

March Madness took on a whole new meaning for TRINITY Group Construction founder and CEO Flip Wallen: in the last 30 days the Herndon-based company was awarded $55m of new construction-with no sign of slowing down.  Add to that another 1.3M SF currently under construction and it's easy to see how Flip's gone from zero to 60 in the last six years-and we don't mean on his Harley Davidson Electra Glide

We zipped out 267 yesterday to say howdy to Flip, left, and TRINITY prez, Jeff Black, right.  Plus we got to check out their new 15,800 SF digs next to Dulles at the intersection of Route 28 and McLearen: Last month TRINITY delivered its own HQ complete with in-office gym and floor to ceiling stone wall (we wanted to climb it).  After 28 years of being in the construction biz, Flip founded the company as a one-man-show in 2002.  He credits his wife for the name, saying it stands for faith, family, and career, which he tries to "keep in that order." Or you could think of the company name as denoting the three airports that they work in between: BWI, National, and Dulles. Jeff signed on in '04 and now the firm's 60-people strong-with the new office space to grow.

Some of Flip's co-workers tell us they believe his cell phone is actually an extension of his ear. Flip maintains it's how he scores deals-like 3801 University Drive, a 3 story 25k SF Class A office building in Fairfax the company landed the other day.  The Northwoods project. a 365k, 6-building flex-industrial for Sawtooth Developers in Sterling, will sit across from the weather station on Rt. 606. TRINITY was also recently tapped for 160k SF of flex industrial for the 4-building site Washington Dulles South for Chicago-based Washington Properties.

The guys told us TRINITY just delivered ahead of schedule a 113k SF TASC V office build-to-suit for Northrop Grumman with Duke Realty in Westfields, submitted for Silver LEED. Downtown they completed the interior build-out for five floors at Akridge's 1016 16th Street for the Jesuit Conference. In Tysons, they finished an 8-story office building renovation for JBG's 8229 Boone Blvd.  It seems like they're all over the place, but Flip is used to driving; he lives "over the river and through the woods" in Woodstock, VA-a whopping 81 miles from the office. On nice days you might even catch him riding his motorcycle to work, though usually he's in the car, and-you got it-talking on the phone.
