Chip Akridge, center, flanked by Studley DC co-head Tom Fulcher and DC Mayor Adrian Fenty were all smiles last Wednesday evening for the groundbreaking of 700 6th Street.  Oh, maybe because we told them to smile when we took the picture.

But there's a better reason:  Work started 10 days ago on a great new 300k SF where Bergmann's Laundry used to be.  As for Tom's smile, he's close to bringing in NY's Cadwalader law firm for 95k of it.  (By the way, this story is not Hollywood product placement, just because Chip Akridge will be our Bisnow Breakfast & Schmooze guest June 5, but as long as you asked, click this link for more info.)

We here at Bisnow are still learning so much.  We thought you had to break ground on an actual site.  But with all that rain, and all those shiny wingtips, they cleverly brought little troughs of dirt indoors.

Last Thursday night we went to Alta—no, not to ski, but to PN Hoffman's Thomas Circle condo building.  On the scenic rooftop, founder Monty Hoffman, pictured above surrounded by ace staff, received recognition for Washington's first LEED-certified multi-family building.  By the way, 98% of the 126 units are sold.

We know Monument co-founders Jeff Neal and Michael Darby are deal guys, but do they just spend their time wandering the halls of the Watergate with phones attached to ears?  Actually, we found them this way as they were headed to a happy hour that they and Davis Construction put on the other day in one of their swanky demo units.

On the balcony of the afore-mentioned swanky demo unit, overlooking the Potomac and Kennedy Center of course, are, from left, Lowe Enterprises’ Sarah Hubbard, and Capital Residential Properties’ Natalie Hasny, Ana Carolina Sotomayor, and Christine Basso. (Note to self: Don't take pictures half in sun, half in shade.)
