Bowl Madness begins-this Saturday in Washington! And can you believe it: DC not only gets its first college football bowl game ever, but it'll be the very first one of the post-season. It's the EagleBank Bowl pitting Navy v. Wake Forest, at good ol' RFK. Easy to get to, fun for everyone. Please see ad to right, and hope to see you there!

Topping off is even sweeter when it's your own HQ getting the evergreen. (Do we sound like aficionados that we know the tradition is to put a tree on top-or did we get that garbled?) Anyway, we were on hand as our friends HITT made the last pour Friday on their 150K SF LEED-Silver offices just off routes 50 and 66 in Fairfax.

Major Projects VP Jim Landefeld and his team-Mike Vaughn, Jason Sihrer, Susan Stine, Eric Bailey, and Ben Dineen-will complete the project on Sept. 23, 2009. (So specific? Someone have a hot date on September 24?) HITT will use floors one, two, and the cellar, while the "For Rent" sign on the top floor goes up today. Noritake Associates designed the building, which will also include a fitness center, barber, deli, and MBC Precision Imaging for fast access to blueprints. It's been a long time since HITT was under one roof because they're currently scattered in 3 buildings on Dorr Ave. Once this project wraps, Jim says they'll return to the old HQ and convert it into an 11-story apartment.

Or is our headline mixing up languages? Anyway, Bethesda's fine Italian restaurant Bice was the place to be Saturday night, where we joined local Transwestern chief Tom Nordlinger and his lovely wife Mimi. They just celebrated the birth of their sixth grandchild and are also lucky to be spending some time now that it's winter at their Del Ray, Fla., condo that they had the foresight to buy 25 years ago. Tom, for those who know him, just loves to smile. He quoted W.C. Fields to us as we took this picture: "It's important to smile every day. Do it early and get it over with."

Also at Bice Saturday night, in the next room over: the Ezra Company holiday party! Yes, you loyal readers know this is the second issue in a row featuring Fred Ezra, second from right, but we wanted to get in his fellow principals Gene Martin, Glenn Meltzer, and Bobby Katz.

Two extremely discerning people who tell us they are obsessive Bisnow readers: Pat St. Jean, who's in HR at Ezra, and husband David Filipiak, a construction superintendent at Bozzuto.

That's what developer Merrick Malone told us as we snapped his pic with wife Marsha the other evening at the Potomac home of Scott Gilbert, founder of the Gilbert Oshinsky law firm. Merrick is principal and EVP of Metropolis Development and in the early 90s was DC's Deputy Mayor for Economic Development and Director of Housing and Community Development. He sees policymakers today as "throwing solutions up against the wall to see what sticks," and says they should require lenders to push money out to Main Street just as they're requiring specific conditions for an auto bailout. Once business confidence returns that leadership knows what it's doing, he predicts better times.

Many of you know Susan Lacz, left, as principal of Ridgewells, here with wonderful colleagues Annette Andrews and Cookie the Dog. The Girl Scouts gave Cookie to Susan for her long-time involvement in their local activities; she's basically on every board they have. Speaking of her stuffed animal's name, this is the big time of the year for Ridgewell's great cookies-which of course you can get in the shape of stars, reindeer, snowflakes, and Santas. Although Susan looks like she may be the season's best Santa.

Quick, guess which of these gentlemen is the President-elect's nominee, announced this weekend, for HUD Secretary? The youngster on the left? Yes! Actually, he's 42 years old, but definitely a wunderkind whose picture we snapped earlier this year at a party in New York, where he's current Mayor Bloomberg's high profile Housing Commissioner. With him, Steve Ross, right, founder of the Related Companies (that owns, for example, Time Warner Center), and big-time Manhattan apartment developer Dan Brodsky. Seems like a nice guy, and we guess we'll be seeing more of him down here.
