Join the oracles of Washington real estate—Ritchey, Schear, Pinkard, Nussdorf, Coulter, Darby, Balaban, Carr, Conley, Murphy—at the first Bisnow State of the Market Conference, National Press Club, Tues, June 24, 7:15-10:00 AM. Sign up! Thanks to Arent Fox, Reznick Group, Gensler, and Bognet!

It was rumored for months, and finally made official last night—a foregone conclusion so long in the making, it reminded us of the Obama nomination. Jones Lang will acquire most of Staubach (not the investment development biz) for $613M with a possible $114M  four-year earnout. 1600 Staubach employees will join JLL's 11,500 in the Americas, adding 14 new corporate offices to JLL's 54.

Roger (Heisman '63 at Navy, MVP Super Bowl VI) started the company in 1977, having worked in real estate in his offseasons with the Cowboys. This was an old style uniform used in the 60s.

Our own local guy Greg O'Brien, who's headed Staubach nationally for the last year, though based in DC, will become CEO of Brokerage in the Americas. Here Greg shows his football grip.

Who's doing the talking here? That's what you get when you put two high energy types together, like Calkain's Jon Hipp and Fraser Forbes' Rich Samit at La Madeline in Tysons last week. Jon was named in this month's Forbes as a national leader in net lease transactions; he's done almost $3 billion worth. And Rich, long considered Mr. Land Broker in the region, has done $3 billion in land transactions. We helped "re-introduce" them and now they're not just friends but have an official alliance: Fraser Forbes will help you sell your dirt, and then Calkain can structure a 1031 into an income producing single tenant asset. Tell 'em we sent you!

We went out to Reston last week to see Centennial Companies' 87K SF, 5-story Executive II, and were shown around by Randall Hagner brokers Barbara Bechtle, Ellie Bechtle, and Ken Traenkle. The building's set to get a $3M renovation to redo the lobby and common areas, and will be sold as office condos with space ranging from 1700 to 18,000 SF.

Inside we met with building owner and Centennial founder Pete Scamardo, right, and first condo  purchaser Rakesh Mehrotra with Nidhi Bansal, who'll use it for their law offices. Pete's developed more than one million SF of office condos in the region.

Since brokers are matchmakers, CBRE's Harry Dematatis and John Filipos introduced Georgetown University to local restaurateur C.W. Chon of Epicurean and Co. Before Epicurean's April opening, GU's on-campus culinary options amounted to either typical cafeteria fare or.well, a walk off campus. Now, students, faculty, staff, and local residents are coming in droves to the 13,500k SF upscale eatery in Darnall Hall which serves everything from sushi and table-side hibachi to deli sandwiches and made-to-order smoothies. John and Harry hope to roll out the concept to institutional clients throughout the region.

Buchanan Partners hosted its second annual Forum on the Local Economy at the Dulles Trade Center West on Friday. Above, Bob Buchanan, Loudoun County asst. administrator Charles Yudd, Loudoun County Department of Economic Development's Robyn Bailey, and Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority's Jim Bennett. The group talked of growth along the "Dulles Loop" and the area's industrial zoning laws (the rationale for which could be heard in the form of frequent airplane flyovers). Jim warned of drastically declining airline capacity to cope with soaring oil prices. Maybe video conferencing will finally take off, if planes don't.
