Last night, the L2 Lounge in Cady's Alley was full of tidings and joy for Monument Realty and Eastbanc's annual holiday bash.
Two of the region's research
oracles, Delta Associates' Greg Leisch
and George Mason's Steve Fuller
, take a break from their databanks
and flank First Potomac CEO Doug Donatelli
(who isn't a researcher, per se, but always inspires us to look stuff up, like the spelling
of his name).
Crystal City BID chief Angie Fox
(with Monument's Russell Hines
and her husband Mitch Bonnano
of Vornado/Charles E. Smith) tells us she's gearing up for Crystal Couture
, a February event that combines runway shows
with shopping, a bar/lounge, and makeovers on the 11th floor of Vornado's 251 18th St S.
CBRE nonprofit and association whiz Manny Fitzgerald
with retail guru Bill Miller
of Miller Walker Retail Real Estate.
Asmar, Schor & McKenna's Charles Asmar, Holland & Knight's David Silver, Monument's Doug Olson; and seated, Davis Construction's Dennis Cotter and Hickok Cole's Yolanda Cole and Michael Hickok.
Real Estate Gives Back
It's been another overwhelmingly charitable
holiday season for the DC commercial real estate industry—and it's not even over yet. Here's a look at how some of you are giving back
this year. Here's the CoStar
crew with donations for the DC Salvation Army Angel Tree
program. Through the research giant's CoStar Builds community outreach program, 125 "angels" were adopted as part of Angel Tree, and a big donation drive
ensued, as you can see above. Snapped here: Janine Sivola
, Meghan Reames
, Denise Harris
, Gregory Horne
and Stephanie Gallagher Pechner.
Some of Studley
's pros (like John Gasque
, above) have been working with Tutormate
, a program that connects tutors with DC elementary schools via the Internet. Studley, which began working with the program in November, has 23 employees
meeting weekly to read and perform word exercises
Last week, SK&I Architecture
provided craft projects and painted faces at THEARC Boys & Girls Club
in Ward 8. The firm's Penny Glover
(shown here helping the students with some handy work) tells us one student even requested to have the Metro map
painted on his face. One architect did her best to recreate from memory, but the student returned later to say she had forgotten the Green Line
. "Thank goodness architects are used to making revisions
," Penny tells us. (She didn't forget—it was just delayed in arriving.)
Like CoStar, the gang from FD Stonewater
also got involved in the Salvation Army's Angel Tree Program. A big group went to the Salvation Army warehouse
last Friday to help sort
and prepare gifts
for the program.
The J Street Cos
got involved with the Elf Store
program of Jubilee Housing, a nonprofit providing affordable housing and services to residents in Adams Morgan
. J Street donated an assortment of toys and mittens to the program, where kids can "shop" for their parents and siblings. Here's J Street's Louise Holland
just about to deliver the items to the Elf Store.
A Bisnow Education Video!
We're often asked after our events, what's a cap rate, a 1031 exchange, a REIT, mezz debt, NOI, CMBS, loan-to-value, "core," etc. Well, we're the wrong people to ask, because we don't know either. BUT, we know someone who does! So we made a video. It's 90 minutes, broken into 19 different 5-minute segments on these different issues. Never be intimidated again! And dazzle the world with your use of highfalutin' acronyms. See the trailer and purchase info below.
Peter Linneman is really smart. He started the Wharton School's Real Estate Department, and he's been Chairman of Rockefeller Center Properties, and on the Executive Committee of Equity Office Properties. He's widely considered the top real estate professor in the United States. So try out the trailer above. And if you like it, for $59 you can stream it as much as you like. And you, too, can get really smart. More info and purchase.
