Tomorrow, DC will be the center of college football! The start of bowl season happens at RFK, at the first-ever EagleBank Bowl. Navy v. Wake Forest. Be there! Please see ad at right for details.

Mary Ellen Curto, who helps run 60-person Group Goetz Architects with husband Lewis Goetz, says the 16,000 SF Dietze-constructed digs in Georgetown that the firm moves to Jan 4 will be LEED Platinum with tons of open space and daylight. It’ll be a showcase for GGA’s styles and sustainability practices. But she says they’re also moving because they see Georgetown as an increasingly vibrant place to be for daily office workers.

We snapped this yesterday of Mary Ellen in the office the firm’s occupied for 10 years at L and 20th. Their new office will be at 2900 K, next to the new Swedish embassy at the waterfront, and owner Carlyle will provide a shuttle directly from the Foggy Bottom Metro, not to mention the options of Circulator and Washington Harbour buses. She says women won’t have to change out of heels into tennis shoes for what used to be a long walk, and the result is a G’Town that’s much more accessible. Of course, the building will also have Zip Car spaces and bike racks.

No, this is not Georgetown, but U Street last night. We seemed to have a full day of GGA visits, dropping by their holiday party at Ben’s Chili Bowl. (They have a lot to celebrate; more GGA projects to be announced.) This gave us a chance to see not just this famous restaurant that’s been going strong 50 years, but to get a sneak preview of the new “Ben’s Next Door, designed by GGA, in the next picture…

Those are our friends from GGA showing us what it’ll be like sitting at the endless bar as of the grand opening on January 13, a “mini-Georgia Brown” in the words of one observer, open for lunch, drinks, and dinner. So if you go to Ben’s, you’ll have another hundred seats and your choice of traditional half-smokes or lobster bisque.

GGA couldn’t say enough good things about Dietze Construction Group’s buildout of the new G’Town office, especially commending SVP Robert Ehardt and Director of Estimation Tony Reichel. This reminded us that Dietze was also the contractor for the Tower Companies’ LEED Platinum interior at 2000 Tower Oaks we’ve written about, making them seem like real platinum buildout kings. What else does Dietze do? Plenty: Here’s their redevelopment of 1310 N. Courthouse Road in Arlington for MRP

Designed by Morgan Gick McBeath, the 380,000 SF building includes a complete lobby re-do with marble flooring and wood paneling; elevator and common area renovation; a tree-lined plaza, new site lighting and outdoor seating.  Shawn Clark, Maureen Kendrick, and Richard Clark helped take a Class C building, formerly occupied by Verizon, and created a new, Class A for the Rosslyn/Ballston corridor.
