DC TAKES NY

Working with the GSA (II): Regional Building Commissioner Bart Bush shares the stage with Jones Lang federal investment leader Joe Brennan, Brookfield local chief Greg Meyer, Perkins & Will principal Holly Briggs, Beacon local chief Jeff Kovach, and Trammell Crow development chief Tom Finan, for a lively discussion about current opportunities, and how best to work with the Feds. Next Friday, Jan 29, Mayflower. Sign up now!

We’re not country rubes anymore. Last night, we were at the Real Estate Board of New York’s 114th (our third) annual dinner at the NY Hilton—and kept looking around and seeing other Washingtonians!

Cassidy Turley: standing, Joe Stettinius, Art Santry, and Bill Collins) and New Yorkers (principal Joe Grotto, vice chair Richard Bernstein, and investment sales guru Mark Boisi

Look who we found at prestigious Table 35, right next to the dais: The newly minted Cassidy Turley folks, already integrating the Washingtonians (standing, Joe Stettinius, Art Santry, and Bill Collins) and New Yorkers (principal Joe Grotto, NYC vice chairman Richard Bernstein, and NYC chairman Mark Boisi). And news alert: Bill is already so on top of his NY game, he reports fellow Washingtonian Charlie Garner of CIM has teamed with the famed Macklowe family to buy the site of the old Drake Hotel at 57th and Park, where they’d like to build a 60-story, 600k SF building.

Monday's chief investment officer Bill Helmig, CEO Anthony Westreich, CB superbroker Paul Amrich, and Colliers ABR founder (now a Cassidy Turley vice chair) Steve Riker.

Of course, Monday Properties (a big landlord in Manhattan, not just Rosslyn) has long been on the scene: chief investment officer Bill Helmig, CEO Anthony Westreich, CB superbroker Paul Amrich, and Colliers ABR founder (now a Cassidy Turley vice chair) Steve Riker.

Real Estate Roundtable CEO Jeff DeBoer, right, and SVP Chip Rogers
DC-based Real Estate Roundtable CEO Jeff DeBoer, right, and SVP Chip Rogers have become sought-after figures in NYC now that policy holds a key to recovery. They’re focused this week on amendments Rep. Joe Crowley is offering to the Foreign Investment in Real Property Tax Act to spur foreign equity capital. In other news, Jeff says he just celebrated the first birthday of a new son by taking him to the Sam Snead Tavern at the Homestead. Clearly gonna be a broker.
Steven Spinola, Governor Paterson, REBNY Chairman (and CBRE Tri-State CEO) Mary Anne Tighe, and Mayor Bloomberg

We snapped this of Gov Paterson and Mayor Bloomberg coming by the VIP reception, here sandwiched in among REBNY president Steven Spinola (in his 24th year) and new REBNY chairman (and CBRE Tri-State CEO) Mary Ann Tighe.

Crowd at 2010 REBNY Banquet

This was the crush at the elite VIP party with the Board of Governors and honorees.

Crowd at 2010 REBNY Banquet

This was the bigger crush at the full dinner. Many of the tables are out of sight at the right. Many attendees stand the whole night and don’t eat until their “after-dinner dinner.”

QUIZ

Picture of JBG managing partner Mike Glosserman

We snapped this in NY yesterday of what famous Washington real estate figure, pictured a few decades ago as a Texas high school star? Hint: It’s hanging on the wall of a splendid two story, 250-seat restaurant in NY that’s about to start construction on a similar version in Penn Quarter. Further hint: It's not Roger Staubach. Warning: Do not advance to the next caption if you want to keep guessing.

Hill Country restaurant owner Marc Glosserman

Meet Hill Country restaurant owner Marc Glosserman, who grew up in Bethesda as son of current JBG managing partner Mike Glosserman. Yep, Mike’s the one in the picture above, at least that’s what Marc claims.

Mike’s originally from Lockhart, TX—so called Hill Country that gives the restaurant (on 26th between Sixth Avenue and Broadway) its name and barbecue cuisine. Grandpa Sam owned a clothing store and was mayor, and Marc has hung many family pictures as décor. We had delectable pork spare ribs and lean brisket and a bunch of sides. So it’s not just DC that’s taking New York. It’s even Bethesda.
