DC KEEPS IT COMING

Big welcome to new sponsor The Dietze Construction Group. The Ashburn firm is celebrating its 15th anniversary. Recent projects include Clyde's at Willow Creek Farm and the Dulles 28 Shopping Centre in Ashburn. Welcome aboard to our new friends!

Don't accuse the Fenty Administration of resting on its laurels. As if the ballpark, NoMa, Poplar Point, and Columbia Heights were not enough, those Requests for Expressions of Interest are still pouring out. Bisnow on Business has learned that in a week and a half, they'll be putting out a solicitation to developers for the 67-acre "Hill East" parcel, a golf ball's drive south of RFK. It's the plot where you'll find DC General and some old municipal buildings, right on the water, though you wouldn't know it. A diamond in the rough for all you enterprising readers.

Not that we'd reveal our source, but this is DC economic development spokesman Sean Madigan with us this morning at the Cleveland Park Starbucks. (Don't worry, folks, it's not really confidential.)  He says they'd love to see Hill East as a model for green development, and that you can get more info at www.dcbiz.dc.gov.  Sean was on his way to the Wilson Building for a 10:30 AM release today of the Mayor's budget that includes $68M for affordable housing.

THE BROOKFIELD
77K ST. CHALLENGE!

CREW!

At a CREW luncheon yesterday at the Hilton featuring a non-real estate speaker (Children's Defense founder Marion Wright Edelman), we found LandAmerica Commercial Services' Sally Webb, JBG's Kathleen Webb, CREW DC president Helen Haerle of Quadrangle, CREW president-elect Jeanne LaBelle of LandAmerica, and LandAm's Joanne Leong. Jeanne said Marion's speech reminded her of the feeling she had as a teenager that individuals "really can make a difference." Hmm, reminds us of some other speeches this year.

WDG Architecture's Bonnie Flippin, Brookfield Properties' Jill Dockins and Liz Jenkins, and Greenman-Pedersen's Winona Leaman. Jill told us Brookfield's busy finishing up the redevelopment of 1225 Connecticut Ave for Q3 and of course their brand new 77 K Street (see contest below). Bonnie's working on the interior tenant fit-out for Opus East's 100 M St. SE. She was also just in NYC being wowed by theatric legend James Earl Jones in Tennessee Williams' Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.

Group Goetz Architects' Jillian Bates, Beth Cockerham, and Bryna Anderson; consultant Jennifer Lindsay; GGA's Tamasha Barnes; and Voice of America's Linda Watts. Jillian is going on a cruise, but not your typical, sit-on-the-deck-drinking-margaritas. It will be a Tiger Cruise, with a friend in the Navy. She's flying to Seattle to join the crew of the USS Nimitz, an aircraft carrier on which she'll be a passenger for a week. Did we know you could do that??
