CRIBS III

Please join us this Thursday at our Schmooze & Breakfast with top developers John Shooshan (Shooshan Cos.), Bob Buchanan (Buchanan Partners), and Bruce Baschuk (J Street). Thurs, Aug. 21, 7:15-9:00 AM, BLT Steak. Thanks to our friends at Seyfarth Shaw, Dietze Construction, and FOX Architects. Sign up now!

We're real voyeurs, aren't we? But don't worry, this is our last installment:

BEST COMFY CRIB

Abdo Development's 14th St. digs have character—and history. It's a refurbished 1890s building complete with exposed brick and ceiling ducts. Personally we would sleep on that couch in the afternoon, but the high energy Abdo types probably never even sit on it.

Exotic Stones

BEST COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF CRIB

Okay, those trees might obstruct the view in August, but in winter from Cushman & Wakefield's 1717 Penn Ave office, the White House might want to be sure the drapes are closed over the windows of the family quarters.

BEST CREATIVITY CRIB

The bright colors, designated brainstorming areas, and the Guitar Hero were enough to convince us that Delucchi+ deserves this category for their pad at 1828 L St.  Nicole Aguilar, Beverly Kitchens, Bryan Byczek, Shawn Bankston, Chris Delucchi, Tyler Jeffrey, Jaime Hannan, and John Piedrahita demonstrate the lounge where the Guitar Hero magic happens.

BEST CLASSICAL HISTORY CRIB

Upon entering Perseus' Penn Ave offices you feel as though you've walked back in time to a Roman temple with the classic mosaic floor tile. Founder Frank Perle is a major ancient history buff. Now all they need to do is institute "Toga Fridays."

BEST MINIMALIST COLOR CRIB

SIGAL Construction's corporate HQ in Crystal City may look white, but it's actually quite green: the first LEED-CI (commercial interiors) project in Arlington County.

BEST CARD-SHARK CRIB

Transwestern's call center in Bethesda looks like it doubles as a casino after 5pm. Apparently the d?cor changes from season to season, with the previous theme being tropical fish.

BEST POLITICAL CREATURES CRIB

At Beveridge & Diamond on Eye Street, no matter what your political affiliation, you'll feel welcome.  Holly Cannon stands with the law firm's "Enviro Donkey," in one corner of the board room.

Henry Diamond shows us the "Panoramic Pachyderm" in the other corner.

BEST COME-ON-IN CRIB

VOA Architects 12th St. office boasts cool outdoor signage. The architecture firm also just recently renovated the first two floors of the space (built in 1903 and on the National Register of Historic Places) and added an interconnecting stair and first floor gallery.

BEST CRIB CRIB

This is our conception of where our own Stacey Pfarr will soon be focusing attention. Oliver Fitzgerald Pfarr was born at 1:01 AM Saturday, 20 inches, 7 lbs 1 oz. Mom and baby are doing great.

YES, THERE REALLY IS A MR. BLT!

As aficionados have come to learn, BLT stands for Bistro Laurent Tourondel, and Thursday we met the founder himself, with a bunch of friends we had to lunch: Arent Fox's Keith Styles, Leo Daly's Dick Swett, developer Bob Murphy, Reznick's Anton Cohen, Clark Construction's Jay Grauberger, and LandAmerica's Chris Naughten. Laurent now has 12 restaurants in NYC, DC, Miami, White Plains, San Juan, and Vegas. He just opened one in the Mirage, which he says is getting 1700 diners a day, and next month opens one in Scottsdale. He tries to get to DC every month or two and told us on this trip he was trying out West End Bistro, though loves Central. You know, those Bistros have to stay together.

IN MEMORIAM

Bud Doggett, 87, parking lot king and behind-the-scenes power of the Board of Trade, was instrumental in reviving downtown after the 1968 riots and helped bring to reality infrastructure like the Kennedy Center, subway system, and old convention center.
