CRIBS II

Next Bisnow Schmooze & Breakfast: with top developers John Shooshan (Shooshan Companies), Bob Buchanan (Buchanan Partners), and Bruce Baschuk (J Street/Hagner/Woodmark). Aug. 21, 7:15-9 AM, BLT Steak. Thanks to great firms Seyfarth Shaw, Dietze Construction, and FOX Architects. Sign up!

Thanks for your tremendous reaction to our first Cribs issues; sorry, you've emboldened us to do this sequel.

BEST CLASSIC CRIB

Randall Hagner president Petch Gibbons may be young and hip, but he looks right at home in this 104-year old company headquarters on Connecticut Ave at Dupont Circle, full of paneled oak, polished bronze, and oil paintings. But after all these years, Hagner's moving in the fall to Georgetown to consolidate its location with recent acquisition Woodmark.

Jones Lang LaSalle

BEST COCKTAIL CRIB

On the flip side, the gang at WorkSpaces, LLC works right above the trendy BeBar on 9th St. NW. We're guessing happy hour for them sometimes starts early.

BEST CLUTTER-FREE CRIB

Clean lines at Perkins + Will's lobby on M St.  Don't they even put a newspaper on the receptionist's desk?

BEST CITY VIEW CRIB

The picture says it all about Vornado/Charles E. Smith's Warner Building at 1299 Penn Ave. This crib also gets celebrity crib bonus points since Julia Roberts filmed a scene from the Pelican Brief in the atrium lobby.

BEST COLLECTOR CRIB

Transwestern's Cliff Mendelson has an office that doubles as a shrine to Bruce Springsteen.  The "Boss" of the Bethesda-based structured finance group tells us his autographed Springsteen guitar came as a thank-you gift after he helped Bruce write the opening lines to "Born in The USA." (jk, folks.)

BEST ICE CREAM CRIB

This summer SmithGroup's 1825 I St. digs have something we believe should be standard for every office: a Ben and Jerry's ice cream cart.

BEST COUSTEAU-EAN CRIB

JM Zell's aquarium (8 ft. x 3 ft. x 4.5 ft plus acrylic 300 gallon salt water tank) holds a lion fish, wrasse, angel fish, clownfish, trigger fish, and a foxface rabbit fish. Jeff shows us Puffer, the JM Zell mascot that apparently rules.

BEST CASUAL CRIB

Many reception areas boast leather couches, but at law firm Gilbert Randoph's New York Ave. office, guests can choose the conventional seat or hop on a Ducati MH900E or Harley Davidson V Rod while they await their appointments. The d?cor seems perfectly in keeping with firm chairman Scott Gilbert's ideal world of motorcycles, blue jeans, and pro bono.

BEST CROWD-PLEASING CRIB

The fully stocked bar at Douglas Development's 700 H St. pad harkens back to Douglas Jemal's early days in real estate when he did most of his business at Dirty Nelly's in Bethesda. Who needs a champagne fountain when you have endless supplies of Ketel One on the rocks? Above, we had our own Stacey Pfarr (pre-baby belly) check it out some time ago.

BEST CLUBBY CRIB

With glass laminated onyx wall and stainless steel "M" graphic logo, Monument Realty's K St. office lobby has the feel of a ritzy private club. Oh, maybe that's why they said our name wasn't on the list.

BEST COFFEE CRIB

Actually, Hagner/Woodmark should have won this, because they are one door down from us and even closer to Starbucks, but since we already gave them an award in this issue, and we control the publishing, we will just arbitrarily declare ourselves the winner. You know we'd be near coffee: How else could we stay up to do six events a night?

Think your crib is Bisnow Crib worthy?  Email Stacey@bisnow.com to be included in Cribs III.
