CRIB AWARDS
PART I

A big welcome to great new sponsor Vastu. The interior design and furniture company's recent portfolio includes the 22 West condo model unit, the Chase Point club lounge, and the Flats At Union Row lobby. Check them all out!

With apologies to MTV, we thought you might like to see how other real estate firms live, so here's our first installment of the Bisnow Crib Awards. (More installments to come, esp. if you let us know about more: Stacey@Bisnow.com.)

BEST CANDY CRIB:

DAVIS Construction, in Rockville, offers a fully stocked junk food center for those late afternoon cravings.

BEST CONDITIONING CRIB:

And to balance the aforementioned, DAVIS Construction makes sure you exercise that junk food right off: a state-of-the-art employee fitness center, with locker rooms, showers, and laundromat.

BEST KITCHEN CRIB:

Looks pretty comfy at the Tower Companies' 2000 Tower Oaks Boulevard on the ninth floor; we imagine employees whipping up gourmet soufflés rather than zapping leftover Chinese take-out. Naturally, it's eco-savvy, too: countertops are recycled glass in concrete, doors haven agrifiber cores (from wheat straw agricultural waste), cabinetry, bowls and cutting board are bamboo, and paper goods are from compostable corn.

Tower's Margaret Curtner, Sheila Mitchell, and Shawn Gibbons enjoy their lunch break in their super green kitchen where they have the option of enhancing their dining experience with fresh herbs from organic window plants of mint, basil, sage, chives, and oregano.

BEST COUNT-ON-US CRIB:

Akridge's red-shirt team (four of which are shown above: Carl Davis, Flowers Carraway, Courtney Lambert, and Charles Brooks) at the development firm's Homer Building HQ been recognized by the national benchmarking group CEL & Associates as the best in DC area building management for eight of the last nine years. Putting money where their tagline is ("Real Estate at the Highest Grade"), the team knows its mission is to help with whatever the building tenants need: hanging pictures, hunting down recycling bins, or providing umbrellas on rainy days.

BEST CAPITOL CRIB:

Though it looks like Lincoln Property's Brandon Ernst and DC head Paul Price were superimposed on a backdrop of the Capitol, this is the actual view from their 101 Constitution Ave NW office roof. Almost as unreal: they have Charlie Palmer Steak House on their ground floor.

BEST "WE'LL TAKE YOUR CURRENCY" CRIB:

JBG's Chevy Chase digs sit in the midst of some of the best shopping around. How do their employees resist the urge to spend money daily at Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdale's, Tiffany's, Dior, Cartier, and Jimmy Choo?

BEST COLLECTORS CRIB:

We think we're in an art gallery when we visit Bresler & Reiner's 5th floor pad on Rockville Pike. Company CEO Sidney Bresler shows us just a few of the 100+ pieces that adorn the walls and shelves, on "temporary but permanent loan" from the massive art collection of parents Charles and Fleur Bresler. Like any good museum, all the art is catalogued with artist and description next to the piece.

BEST CONVENIENCE CRIB:

Lowe eastern region president Mike Balaban sees this from his office at 1101 Connecticut Ave, which literally sits on top of Farragut North (how's that for consistency with their strategic focus on transit-rich infill?). With the Mayflower next door (including bar, restaurant and taxi line), Mackey's black and tans up a block, and Morton's, Borders, Brooks Brothers, Filenes, J Press, and Ann Taylor across the street, they may never need to leave.

BEST CRAZY CRIB:

Sure, we're the ones giving the awards, so why not include our own office digs at 1323 Connecticut Ave? Here we are pretending to work instead of our normal habit of playing ping pong in the back.
