Announcing the Bisnow Fall Real Estate Conference!  2 panels, 10 great speakers, special guest moderator Mitchell Schear. Sept. 18, Press Club, 7:15-10am. Big thanks to Holland & Knight, Bohler Engineering, Citizens Bank, Group Goetz. More info.

As we say hello to a stretch of weather predicted to hit the mid-90s, may we nostalgically remember yesterday, the last day of July, when it was only in the high 80's?

Last night we hosted a bash for 400 from across our newsletter industries at the new Shadow Room downtown; they came in waves, increasingly younger, from 7 PM to 2 AM this morning.  Here, around 10 PM, were Clearspring CEO Hooman Radfar, Breakneck Road’s Eric Ferrari, GGA’s Linday Olup, Parature’s David Huang, Virginia Tech’s Courtney Cross, Clearspring president Jay Rappaport, and Parature’s Duke Chung and Jesse Sun. Two of the guys were Bisnow 35 Under 35 top entrepreneurs:  Hooman, 27, is king of widgets, whose company got $18 million in venture capital this spring and boasts Steve Case and Ted Leonsis as board members; and Duke, 29, whose firm makes downloadable web support and has over 100 employees, got $16 million in funding this spring. We suspect they went back to work at midnight.

Last Night on the Potomac

Last night a new Tysons-based private equity firm called A&R Capital Partners threw a "coming onto the scene" party aboard the Harbour Belle. Founders Ali Sadr, Luis Rivera, and Rob Klingensmith (who you can tell were the hosts because they wore jackets) tell they have over $100m in projects right now, like a 53k SF LEED office condo building, Oakton Executive Plaza, in Fairfax.

Tower Oaks

Also on board last night (hey, where's the gals?): LPB Energy Management's Brett Leve, Fraser Forbes Mark Anstine, Wills Companies' Tim Wills, Arent Fox's Murat Ozgu, Green Waste Management's Ben Maldonado, and Wills Companies' Trey Wills.  Brett tells us LPB is currently managing energy supply for over 3m SF in the DC area.  He also says he's heading to Panama later this summer for a surf trip.  Murat (who happens to be the lawyer for the Wills Companies, LPB, and Green Waste) says he and the family are heading to Cape May for three weeks.

Soe Lin Architecture principal Douglas Soe Lin and Petrus Group principal Par Ishaq get their sea legs on the water.

And look who we ran into on the dock at Nick's Riverside Grill: that jolly bunch from Cassidy & Pinkard, bidding adieu to Kate McGovern (in the orange), who's moving to Boston shortly.

What happened to all the food? The hot weather worked up an appetite, and not just at this table: Get a load of that crowd in the mirror! No recession at BLT yesterday, and we were happy to join in the merriment with some friends: GGA founder Lewis Goetz, Cardinal Bank DC prez Kate Carr, Venable real estate guru Robert Gottlieb, and LandAmerica regional head Chris Naughten.

On Wednesday night at Brasserie Beck, 75 students, alumni, faculty and board members made merry at Johns Hopkins Capital Real Estate Forum's summer networking reception. Ben Stoll, Archstone-Smith's Michael Wagoner, Sugar Oak Corporation's John MacDonnell, JHU's real estate program head Mike Anikeeff, and Freddie Mac Multifamily's Jane Sang.

The JHU CREF Executive Committee—or maybe it's the Summer Tan committee: O'Neill Realty Advisors' Andrew O'Neill, Archon Group's Tricia Moore-Wiesenfelder, JM Zell's Adam Gass, Monday Properties' Kassi Saridakis, Madison Marquette's Kinnery Ardeshna, Holland & Knight's Shannon Sentman, and Cushman's Dave Dochter. Andrew tells us O'Neill recently repped Veterinary Orthopedic Sports Medicine of Ellicott City in the acquisition of a new vet orthopedic surgery and rehab care facility. Kinnery tells us Madison Marquette has been active in acquisitions this year despite the softening retail transactional market; they've closed on four so far in '08, including redevelopment of 770 M St. SE (the historic building known as the "Blue Castle").

Edens & Avant's Geoff Sharpe, Foulger Pratty's Adam Davis, JHU's Oliver Harris, Douglas Development's Sean Bruce and Kevin May, and Woodmark's Chris Wells.

Wednesday evening, a bunch of real estate golf junkies met at Top Golf in Kingstowne: Applied Risk Management's Amy Talton, Turner's Drew Langsam, Minkoff's Susie Summers, Metropolitan Asset Management's Jim Crowder, WDG's Bonnie Flippin, K3's John Crane, CORT's Celeste McLane, Turner's Diana Parker, Akridge's David Toney, WDG's Julie Tice, US General Contracting's Larry Summers, and WDG's Theresa Krehnovi. Bonnie just got back from a vacation in the Dominican Republic and is heading out again next weekend to Vegas for her birthday. Larry's still in relaxation mode from Bethany, while Amy tells us she and her husband are heading to North Carolina to celebrate their fifth wedding anniversary.

Congrats to Transwestern's Alan Asman and Bernie McKeever who announced yesterday that they just completed a 37k SF office expansion and lease renewal in the 274k SF Ballston Station at 4301 N. Fairfax Dr. in Arlington for Management Sciences for Health, Inc. The landlord, The State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio, whom Bernie and Alan represented in the transaction, is one of the largest public pension funds in the country with investment assets of more than $70B.
