BREAKFAST
AT BLT

A big shout-out to our new friends at sponsor Smith-Midland. The firm offers a range of high-quality precast concrete products including SlenderWall. Delighted to welcome them aboard!

This morning, 140 packed into BLT Steak for Bisnow's Breakfast & Schmooze with Louis Dreyfus president Jeff Sussman (down from NYC) and regional head Bob Braunohler. You read that right: breakfast at BLT. We were their first one ever there.  Too bad Henry Mancini's not around to write a theme song.

Bob, center, and Jeff, right, join Tishman Construction EVP Steve Dalton. Jeff and Bob shared the history and lessons of their trophies like the Four Seasons, 1101 New York Ave, and Station Place, and plans for Lafayette Tower at 801 17th St, plus describing "rumors" about a huge air rights project people are saying they might do over 395 downtown. Meanwhile, Steve tells us Tishman's working on the 350k SF ground-up American Pharmacists Association HQ on 22nd and Constitution, and also managing the $2B, 20-building consolidation of the FDA for GSA. He just got back from Dublin where he played The Links Courses (admittedly, pints of Guinness were involved), and also popped by a family reunion.

Gilbert Randolph's Ellen Katkin with CBRE's Bruce Pascal, Bill Prutting, and Andrew Felber. Bruce and Andy are heading up leasing for 801 17th St.; yesterday they even signed a first tenant for what some (like us) are calling the new Time Warner Center of DC. Bruce just got back from New Orleans where he was touring Tulane with his daughter.

Gilbert Randolph's Rachel Kronowitz and name partner Jerry Randolph flank Studley's Rick Rome. Jerry says he's heading up to his house on Burt Lake in Northern Michigan this weekend, while Rachel says she's recently become an expert on Muhammad Ali due a report her 5th grader's been assigned.

WorkSpaces principal Tom McGuire and Marlene Gardner, GGA's Thomas Hart, Reznick's Jim Martinko and Leo Daly's Dianne Schachner.  It's April 16th, which Jim tells us is an "unofficial mental health day for accountants" (read: PARTY TIME) so he and 40 other Reznick folks are heading out to Whiskey Creek to enjoy sunny weather and play golf. Thomas tells us the only thing on his mind is the playoffs; he says GGA has floors seats and he's looking forward to the Wizards beating Cleveland.

No caffeine necessary for these four to flash morning smiles; we caught Barbara Nolan's Tonya Kowalczyk and Marie Davis, WorkSpaces Tim Fink, and Pam Bothwell. Tim's heading to the Big Easy to celebrate his 30th birthday Cajun-style at New Orleans' Jazz Fest next week.

JBG's Lauren Petitti, EastDil's Dean Sands, Bovis' Erica Gomez, and Linden Contracting's Jeff Cassidy. Jeff may take up moonlighting as a rock star: He tells us Linden's spending their days building a new 90k Paul Reed Smith guitar factory on Kent Island.  He's even trying to score a fresh-from-the-factory guitar for his 17-year-old son. It's wedding bells for both Erica and Lauren; Erica's getting married in 10 days in the Florida Keys, while Lauren's tying the knot in July in the Azores. Dean has his own exciting news: he's going to be a dad in August.

Balfour Beatty's Steve Smithgall and mid-Atlantic CEO John Tarpey with Sigal Construction CEO Gerry Sigal. Balfour's been working on Station Place III, and Gerry says Sigal's busy finishing up the renovation of the 1920s-era, five-star Jefferson Hotel which should be open in June.

Jeff says Louis Dreyfus now concentrates on office in the DC and NYC markets because those are the only two cities where rents reliably rise. Among other tidbits we coaxed out of them, we learned how Julia Louis Dreyfus is related, and that they built the one and only building that Eliot Spitzer's father (a big NY developer) has ever bought in Washington.
