AGC Bash

Big shout-out to our great sponsor Orr Partners.  They just completed the project management of Boland’s interior build-out of its 60k SF HQ in Gaithersburg.  Congrats!

A lot happening in the last 24 hours and we're not talking about Wall Street.

We were on hand at lunch today as Transwestern hosted a brokers party on the sun-drenched roof terrace of 1331 L St. Yep, that's the 10-story, 170k Mortgage Banker's trophy that delivered in May; TW took over the listing in July. Mark Richardson and Jackie Raff are handling the six floors and 100k SF that the MBA's not occupying; and Bill Miller and Alex Walker are handling the 12k retail, chasing a couple signature chefs looking to do a bistro a la Central or Beck. Designed by SmithGroup and built by DRI, it's a mid-block building with windows on four sides and certified LEED Silver, going for Gold. The raffle of Nintendo Wiis, cash, and a 4-day trip to Hawaii helped us forget the market down below.

One of Greatest Streets in America!
This was snapped this morning as Arlington County Board Chairman J. Walter Tejada accepted an award from the American Planning Association designating Wilson and Clarendon Blvds as among the Top 10 Streets in America for 2008. APA cited the County's successful smart growth measures that have caused higher than average Metro ridership, lower use of autos, great mixed-use development, and reduced density and carbon footprint.  Assuming our banks haven't closed, let's go to Clarendon to celebrate!

Last night, the Associated General Contractors of DC filled the Newseum for their 8th Annual Washington Contractor Awards. Over 400 celebrated on two floors with the help of a stringed rock quartet, martini bars, cigars and brandy on THE terrace, dessert lounge, and three sponsored Wolfgang Puck restaurant themed buffets. (Does this explain some weary eyes on your construction site this morning?) Above, Davis Construction's Sheri Landen and Jason Pepin flank Army Corp. of Engineers' Joyce Contat. The US Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District, was honored as Owner of the Year. The victory was even sweeter since Joyce could share it with Jason, her son.

Naval Academy Construction Director Tom Trulli and Captain Dan King. Tom tells us they just completed the Wesley A. Brown Field House, a $51M state-of-the-art athletic facility. Wesley Brown was the first African-American to graduate the Naval Academy in 1949.

Clark Construction's Jessica Wolford and Shea Delutis-Smith, AGC of DC board member. Shea accepted an award for Nationals Park, giving her reason to smile beyond the fact that she has a healthy 4-month-old at home.

AGC of DC president Nigel Parkinson and Bank of Georgetown's Keith Harding. Nigel says Keith is DC's most progressive banker because, unlike others, he's actually lending money.

Grunley Construction's Tracy Hill, Pierce Associates' Matthew J. Corrigan, Grunley's Donna S. Duncan and Gregory A. McHugh.

Microdesk's Jason Cicchelli and Ben Whitcomb, who's just back from hiking the Inca trail in Peru. Microdesk sponsored the buffet, so he could satisfy the appetite he must have worked up.
