TOP ENTREPRENEURS, FOR THE AGES
(Part 1
)

Last night we stepped into a time warp connecting past and future geniuses of the Washington region as an “older” generation honored the Bisnow “35 Under 35” top entrepreneurs at the McLean home of venture capitalist Gene Riechers. Thanks to great sponsors Deloitte, Greenberg Traurig, Cabot Consultants, and Comerica, not to mention Ridgewells not just for the Peking duck and crab cakes but all those fantastic mohitos with neon stir sticks.

The top 35 at Gene’s front door. The great MarcParc valets almost had a heart attack thinking everyone was coming for their cars at the same time. (Now, we admittedly count only 27 in this picture, but we think that’s because hungry intellectuals that they are, a few wandered back to the food before we could corral them for the shot.)

That’s KZO Innovation’s Jeff Fissel, PSINet founder Bill Schrader, Novak Biddle General Partner Roger Novak, and host Gene Riechers. We purposely kept the group to about 125, so everyone could (unlike many events) actually meet each other. Already we are hatching plans for six-month reunions and a booster shot each year of a few new Under 35 entrepreneurs added to the group.

Appian founder Matt Calkins, Internet inventor (with Vint Cerf) Bob Kahn, and Digital Management founder Sunny Bajaj. Appian’s already made $100M since it started, and DM does $8M a year, but Bob stopped counting revenue he’s accounted for when it reached 42 Bajillion (though unfortunately he doesn't get it).

K4Solutions CEO Sumi Krishnan, Rainfield Group’s Rahul Brahmbhatt, and Marks Aviation CEO Joshua Benegal Marks.

Deloitte regional head Gary Tabach and Turtle Wings COO Jeremy Farber look like close friends, but they met seconds before this picture. That’s what networking’s all about—and we are reassured that the younger generation has caught on so fast.

Honoree Evan Burfield, CEO of Synteractive, with Deloitte’s Ellen Mundell and Valhalla Partners Scott Frederick, who enjoyed drinks inside and then used Scott’s shirt as a cloth for a picnic outside.

WeddingWire.com’s Tim Chi and Lee Wang. Tim tells us his company will have some major news next week, but apparently you don’t get to be a top 35 Under 35 by leaking news prematurely. (Can it possibly top Martha Stewart’s $5 million February investment in his company?) One thing we know: Tim went to sleep happy last night after watching his beloved Lakers top the Boston Celtics in Game 3 of the NBA Finals.

LOTS MORE PICS COMING—SEE PART 2 TOMORROW!

We can only report on parties so many days, so contact Dave Stegon with more story ideas: David@Bisnow.com or 703-674-7718.
