Last night there were so many government CIOs at the AFCEA Executive Dinner that we could practically feel the gravitational pull of their mammoth wallets pulling us toward them. As you know, AFCEA is an association that brings together government, military, and private industry; technically the crowd last night was convened and fed at the J.W. Marriott by the Bethesda chapter, evidently the only members not at the beach.

National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration CIO Joe Klimavicz with CSC Dir. of Biz Dev Lee Ann Anderson and Oracle's Debbie Dilldine. Joe says NOAA is busy installing C-SAM technology to allow secure transactions between wireless devices, a task involving 135 systems spread across 450 buildings nationwide. Debbie just returned from Banff, where she was probably tempted to lose her wireless device somewhere in the Rockies.

Lumeta's Nick Kovacic and Overseas Private Investment Corporation CIO David Zeppieri were talking network security when we came up for this picture. (Or at least that's what they said; looks more like a bet to us.) David is looking to cut down on OPIC's TICs (trusted Internet connections) while Nick's company is more than happy to do that. David can be found golfing during his off hours, especially the course at Ft. Belvoir.

InterImage's Leslie Steele, ATS' Bob Mahoney and NASA Goddard Flight Center CIO Linda Cureton. Linda tells us she is excited about a recently approved mission to upgrade the Hubble Telescope. "We're just upgrading with the times, so we can see farther and clearer than before." Linda spent her Fourth of July at a family picnic, but ended up burning dinner. "I closed the grill and a couple minutes later all the food was on fire." Hope the fireworks in the sky were better.

DoD's Mark Krzysko, ca's Vince Mastroianni and Nuclear Regulatory Commission CIO Darren Ash. Darren is on our interview schedule early next week so we gave him a pass, but Vince tells us ca (so humble it doesn't capitalize its name—not our typo) just won a $10.5 million contract from Veterans Affairs to provide identity assurance. That's nothing compared to his recent trip to Florida where his hotel was right next door to the shooting for the latest Hooters calendar.

Delta Solutions & Technologies Harvey Wiley, Performance Value Management's Onelia Codrington and the State Department's Gary Galloway. Delta Solutions is working on a $30M contract for the Department of the Interior to oversee and maintain its Financial Business Management System. Onelia is a long distance runner, once clocking a marathon in 3:50, although her best event in college was the 400m dash. See the important facts  you learn in Bisnow?

Lockheed's Mac DeShazer and Al Hobelmann of CCSi, an Oakton-based government IT consultant. Mac tells us he's working on Lockheed's vast IT support for U.S. Africa Command (aka AFRICOM), which oversees U.S. military operations in 53 African nations. He's also writing a book about his family's heritage, tracing their roots back 60,000 years to Nigeria through DNA. Hope he doesn't have to do a chapter on each generation.

Tessada Associates Henry Brattlie, Vangent VP John Lauder and TranTech's Frank Lancione and Bill Bowser. Tessada does a number of cool things for NASA, from fueling vehicles to taking pictures of the space shuttle during landings. The Springfield-based company also does facility support for the Dept. of Agriculture's Food and Nutrition Services Branch in Arlington. These guys should be in a wine commercial.

And because we just don't get enough networking, we stopped by Texas de Brasil restaurant in Fair Oaks, Fairfax last night for more. Our friend (well, more than that, our Bisnow advisory board chairman) Mike Daniels, center, keynoted the dinner, here huddled with new- found professional colleagues Danny Vargas (host of the event and founder of the Hispanic GovCon Network), Cascades' Technologies Alfredo Casta-President, Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce president Ana Recia Harvey, and Devis, Inc.'s Cristina Mossi. (Hi, Mike!)
