Let’s cut to the chase: Government Computer News Awards Gala. Hilton Washington. More than 1,000 of government ITs biggest names. Black tie—no denim this time. We brought our camera and tried to make sense of the whole thing.

We admit we only meant to get OMB CIO Karen Evans (a GCN Hall of Fame inductee)  and superstar consultant Phil Kiviat, of Guerra Kiviat Associates, in this pic, but Touchstone Consulting Managing Director Tony Summerlin apparently snuck in. (Tony, all you had to do was ask.) Starting Monday, Karen says everyone needs to log on to theNationalDialogue.org to take part in a discussion on health IT and privacy, with results sent to the incoming administration. And not to brag, but Phil was saying how much he loves Tech Bisnow; we almost booked a room in the Poconos.

SSCI’s Jim Kane, Connelly Works’ Joanne Connelly and DOT CIO Dan Mintz. As a presidential appointee, Dan has only a few weeks left in office, but he’s no lame duck: The department just announced the hiring of a geospatial officer who’s creating an internal wiki full of fun transportation data, soon be available to the public. “I’ll probably never be in a job this consequential again, so I’m using my time,” says Dan, a Capitals season-ticket holder who predicts a playoff berth and maybe more, depending on the goaltending.

Apptis biz dev VP Pauline Healy with boyfriend (Northrop biz dev VP) Sean Mullen and his co-worker Juli Ballesteros. Sean works Northrop’s federal sector, dealing with everything from security officers to loan officers, while Juli takes care of us nice media people. Since we see Pauline everywhere, we asked Sean something about his girl no one would know: “She has a gigantic Snoopy collection.” To be fair, Pauline says Sean collects Boston sports memorabilia.

Citizant celebs: Matt Tabor, Joseph Linza, CEO Raymond Roberts and Bruce Mulligan. “Just say ‘We got Fiona’ and everyone will know what I mean,” says Raymond, talking about his hire of biz dev superstar Fiona Barshow from SRA (who, oddly enough, was in our foursome at the recent WIT charity golf tournament). If Bruce looks extra happy, it’s because his Crimson Tide are still undefeated.

Perot Systems’ Maggie Bauer with Oracle’s Angela Norris and her husband Greg. Maggie says Perot is doing all of the desktop support for the Department of Education, while Angela is busy working with DHS (meaning she can’t tell us what she’s doing). No worries, Maggie gave us the real scoop: her birthday is Saturday.

Citizant’s Ramesh Ramakrishnan and Visitronix CEO Deepak Hathiramami. Deepak tells us his company has seen 70% growth in the past year and they’d be growing quicker if they found more employees. “Make that qualified employees,” says Deepak, referencing those pesky security clearances the government loves. Deepak’s beloved Yankees need qualified employees too, mainly starting pitchers.

National Nuclear Security’s Wayne Jones, second from left, with Raytheon’s Todd Rovner, Scott Engelson and Adele Gill. Wayne was honored last night for the enterprise security network he constructed with the Raytheon team over the last three years to protect, what else, nuclear information. Todd told us about a secret he’s planning this weekend, but instead of spoiling the surprise, we’ll just say it involves jewelry and a question. Have we said too much?

Qwest’s Wayne Davis and Symantec’s Jim Russell with FedResults’ CEO Jim Beaupre and COO Bob Dinkel. Jim Russell, who heads Symantec’s public sector, tells us his company is shoulder deep in the government Cyber Initiative, helping agencies increase trusted Internet connections and do away with outside portals. We took Jim Beaupre’s picture so we could talk about his ‘02 Corvette. On racing last weekend: “It was a short track, so we only got up to 120 mph.”

David Stegon is at Mid-Atlantic bio today and then dropping by the Tower Club tonight as Deltek hosts CACI Chairman Jack London. Send story ideas to David@Bisnow.com
