Party of the Season! Our Fall Happy Hour co-hosted by Capitol Riverfront BID and JPI. Come see the views of the Capitol and the ballpark, have a drink, and network on the rooftop of the just-opened Jefferson at Capitol Yards luxury apartments. Tues., Sept 16, 6-8pm. One-block from the Navy Yard metro (Half St & I St SE). Free-of-charge and free parking! Sign up now!

Hmm, our headline could be a movie title-maybe a romantic comedy with Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey? Nah, it should star Jim O'Neill and Cindy Landis!

That would be CompuDyne CEO Jim O'Neill with his executive assistant Cindy Landis, who looked quite Hollywood-ready last night at NVTC's Fall Fusion '08 networking fun at the Reston Town Center Pavilion. We sampled pulled pork sandwiches and hot dogs along with 400 other techies. Last time we saw Jim he was head of Northrop Grumman Information Technology, but he's since moved on to lead the Annapolis-based holding company funded by California-based Gores Group. Even with the new gig, Jim finds time to take out his 37-foot boat "Magic Moments."

Equal Footing Foundation's Lee Betton, MSBD CEO Mike Smith, Equal Footing's Colleen Hahn and Weis & Weisel's Evan Weisel. The Foundation is the charitable arm of the NVTC, providing computer clubhouses for underprivileged kids. Mike tells us he does bis dev for small tech firms, but just added Craig from Craigslist as a client. Lee tells us he just returned from Estes Park, Colo., home of the haunted house from "The Shining." Scary!!!

C2 Portfolio's Jeff Wools and Rainfield Group's Joe Bower. It makes sense these two were talking: Jeff's company does human resources management while Joe's company helps recruit top-level execs, who we're sure need employees once they get their new gig. Joe tells us he's an avid photographer, but likes taking pictures of nature instead of people, which come to think of it is the exact opposite of what we do.

NVTC's Michele Weatherly with Advantage Tech's Brian Gowin and Shawn Wilkins. Shawn tells us Advantage Tech does IT staffing for federal agencies, most notably the DHS, but is sworn to secrecy on other details (very glamorous). Shawn spent the past two weekends watching football, but is still bummed about Virginia Tech's loss the first week of the season. (Have you noticed our football obsession? We're trying to get over it. Give us about 10 weeks.)

Kotra's Hyung Choi and Virginia House of Delegates' rep Dave Albo. Kotra is a department of the Korean government that specializes in economic development through various trade promotion activities such as overseas market surveys and business matchmaking. Dave tells us his biggest concern is transportation, but he's lacking the one thing needed to fix it: "Money, money, money," he says. In other news, he recently saw a hippo and some monkeys at the National Zoo with his daughter.

Open Source Solutions' Jennifer Damerson, Dataprise's Adam Dameron, Ettain's Hunter McElfish and Patton Boggs' Paul Powell, who apparently had no idea we were taking his picture-won't he be pleasantly surprised? Adam tells us Dataprise is doing IT support for a number of non-profits, including the Humane Society. The company is also hosting the latest Capital Connection networking event in Arlington on Monday (it's on our calendar) for the biz dev crowd. Adam and wife Jennifer have spent summer's last few weekends on their boat "The Secret." (Being nice journalists, we didn't ask. But we're setting up an anonymous tip line.)

Access National Bank's Rafael Martinez, JX2 Professional Software's Larry Morris and Access's Joaquin Gullardo. Larry tells us his company makes debt collection software that prevents a person in debt from using a bank account online until all bills are paid. The company has collected nearly $10M in unpaid debt since signing with a "major local bank" four months ago. Larry had a quiet summer, but the year before made his first trip to South America to visit his wife's family in Colombia. See what you learn here?

Happy Metallica Day! After more than five years a new Metallica album hits stores today, so David Stegon will be playing it on a constant loop until at least Christmas. Talk about the greatness of Metallica or send story ideas to David@Bisnow.com
