Like any hip Tech publication, we realize today is a national holiday for video gamers: Madden NFL 09 landed in stores this morning for anyone smart enough to pre-order a copy. We met cover boy Brett Favre (full disclosure: we technically mean a poster of Brett Favre) outside a suburban Virginia Game Stop this morning to hear the buzz about the new game. For those of you who live in caves, Madden 09 is Electronic Arts Sports' annual NFL game, the highest grossing property in video game history, generating $2.4 billion in sales since 1995. This year's version marks the 20th anniversary of the series (which included the '93 version we dominated on Sega Genesis). The game also adapts to users, getting more difficult the better a user plays to stop the always fun 72-3 blowouts.

We met Guident Technologies partners Dan Ackerman, Teddy Matheu and Boyd Hartner yesterday at the company's Herndon-office (partner Suneet Gupta was away, allegedly working). The four bootstrapped the 12-year-old business integrator, shifting gears through the dot com bust to survive. "We were originally working as consultants to telecom companies like PSINet and Sprint Worldcom, so in all honesty, we are lucky to be here," Teddy says, referring to some companies you all know no longer exist. The company now focuses on business intelligence, data warehousing and Oracle solutions.

Teddy tells us the 120-person firm is doing a $3 million project to install software for the DOT Multimodal HazMat Intelligence Portal. The program analyzes the safety and security of all transported hazardous material. The company is also doing BI for the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, providing full life-cycle support for the Court Integrated Resource Information System that handles all the strategic staffing and workload management for the U.S. court system. We recommend they open a marketing subsidiary to advise clients on the desirability of shorter names.

We ran out to the Tower Club this morning for the latest InterSource invitation-only CEO Roundtable breakfast. The monthly roundtables are invitation-only and allow company CEOs and Presidents the chance to discuss topics unique to running a company. (We defeated the defense perimeter and were eventually let in; we might have invoked something about our First Amendment rights.) Above, InterSource partner Arthur Medici, DSK Solutions CEO Debbie King, Green Brilliance CEO Sanjay Chandra, Sine Nomine Associates CEO Margarete Ziemer and Welz & Weisel co-founder Evan Weisel. Debbie tells us her Falls Church-based company does web development for a number of trade associations, like the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing, and is building a retail-type online shopping cart for users to buy NGIP products online. When not running her company, Debbie rides her two horses, Spirit and Strictly Business.
