(April) Young

Last night we headed out to E & Y's McLean offices for an open house with 250 of the firm's clients, employees and friends, when we got a nice little reward for our shoe leather in the form of .

Breaking news! Tech region pioneer April Young (here with Silicon Valley Bank's Sean Stone) tells us she's leaving Comerica Bank at the end of this month to join Toronto-based MMV Financial, where she'll head business development here in the States (still based in NoVa, we are happy to report). "This gives me a chance to move down the balance sheet a bit and work with different types of companies," says April, who's also planning a trip to Sicily this spring. (Note to April: Get tips from Donna Morea on Italian olive oil before you go.)

Ernst & Young Greater Washington Managing Partner Kevin Virostek and Rene Salas. Rene just returned from E&Y's Entrepreneur of the Year Awards in Palm Springs hosted by Jay Leno. Rene tells us he played golf at PGA West and snuck on to Riviera (a previous host of the U.S. Open and PGA Championship) where singer Johnny Mathis and "the guy who played Starsky" (we assume he means Paul Michael Glaser) played through his group.

E & Y's Jim Volpicelli and Keri Day. Get used to Keri, techies, because last month she was named E&Y's Mid-Atlantic Technology and Telecommunications Industry Leader and will oversee the technology and communications practice from Richmond to Philadelphia. A mother of two, Keri stays busy chauffeuring her daughter to practices for an Irish dance competition (we're talking Riverdance-type stuff).

Criterion Systems CEO Promod Sharma, KenRay Partners Ray Rice, Grotech Ventures Steve Frederick, and Contract Consulting Dynamics Stuart Lloyd. Promod's company was named to Deloitte's fast 50 list and recently got major attention as Tom Ridge (yes, the one we have on tap at our Dec 2 conference, excuse the plug) joined their board of advisors, along with former Air Force Vice Chief of Staff Tom McInerney and former Senate Sergeant at Arms William Pickle.

Expense Reduction Analysts Phil Gross and George Wolfand, Honesty Online's Ric Fleischer, and Bernstein Global Wealth Management's Jon Heisler. Ric tells us that Honesty, which verifies people's Internet identities, is about to sign a deal with a "top 10" dating site. (Hmm, that service would seem rather useful for dating.) They also just launched a widget writers can place on their blogs guaranteeing people are who they say. Ric must have verified his own identity, because he tells us his house has been full lately with lavish house parties.

We also ran over to the Tower Club last night as IT Insights, a Fall Church-based business management and information technology consulting firm, celebrated its fifth anniversary. Above, IT Insights president Lisa Forczyk with Washington Regional Association of Grantmakers COO Lina Cortas, whose group was given the "Insightful Innovator Award," by Lisa for its use of technology. The real reward last night was Lisa's appetizers. She is a gourmet chef in her spare time and gave the Tower Club's chef her recipes to serve at the party.

Speaking of which, David Stegon somehow became his girlfriend's personal chef, but thankfully she only eats Cookie Crisp. Send (simple) recipes and story ideas to David@Bisnow.com.
