DUFFEY PARTIES ON

Celebrities in our midst!  Craigslist's Craig Newmark and former Apple CEO John Sculley, among others, at the upcoming Southeast Venture Conference. Feb 27-28, Tysons Ritz.

It wasn't just the Oscars this weekend where the stars came out.  How about that Jim Duffey? The 25-year vet of EDS, most recently their high profile government business chieftain, just jumped to Dell.  He'll be heading their Public Business Group, which gives him not only all levels of government but education and health care, too, although by the close of the current presidential campaign, health care and government may end up being the same thing.

Our camera caught Jim and wife Deborah among 650 who came out Saturday night for the American Heart Association's 10th anniversary gala for the National Capital Region at the Tysons Ritz. And, of course, who would never be too far from the center of action (well, at least if it's not golfing weather) than our friend IMC CEO Sudhakar Shenoy, here with Boston Scientific's Lisa Heilbraun.  Lisa fit right in, not just because of her beautiful gown: She also used to design cardiac stem trials.

Still brimming with energy despite the exciting life of young newlyweds, Susan and George Newstrom co-chaired the black-tie, er, red-tie, bash. George, president of Lee Technologies, told us that after getting married on October 27, they figured working on the dinner might actually be a great way to spend time together. Plus, the cause is near and dear to them, as Susan's father suffered from heart disease.

MC Leon Harris of ABC7 and FedResults' Bob Dinkel, newly promoted to president of what he says is his rapidly expanding company.  (We debated supplying Bob's e-mail for congratulatory notes, but he needs to get real work done now.)  Bob says they have a new Colorado-based client that's trying to get a foothold in the federal sector (ah, that must be why Bob's firm has its name). And sshhh.he's planning a "secret get-away" with wife Kathleen in April for a little R&R. Those presidents know how to vacation, huh?

Venable's Scott Hommer and wife Deborah (a common name at these events evidently) join former Landmark Systems CEO Kathy Clark with husband and consultant Bradley Rosenberg. Bradley told us he's in the market for two things:  a new boat and "a business to fix." He and Kathy sold their 56' Oyster sailboat last year, and Bradley says they're now considering a turn to the "dark side" - buying a power boat.
