From sailor Kathy Clark to trekker Mike Daniels, from golf nut Sudhakar Shenoy to tennis crazy John Lee, NVTC's chairmen have been a pantheon of top business people with obsessive hobbies and legions of friends. Donna Morea, CEO of CGI, does not break the mold (we'll keep you guessing about the hobby until the next caption). Last night scores of high powered friends turned out at host McGuire Woods' offices high above the Palm to wish her well as she prepares to ascend to high NVTC office. Even a three-piece band played, for Pete's sake.

Donna (apparently not yet given the tiara that goes with her impeding position) with McLean Capital founder Dendy Young. Donna tells us CGI has grown mostly organically over the past four years, but will be making a splash in the acquisitions market this year. (Some of you might want to re-read that sentence.) She jokes (we think) that her biggest challenge at NVTC will be finding a speaker more famous than Bill Gates, who appeared before NVTC in March. Wonder if Bono is a techie? On the side, in other big news, she's planning to open the first brick and mortar store for her online olive oil business, Olio2go.

Oh, and our friend Bank of America Mid-Atlantic Prez Bill Couper, the new Greater Washington Board of Trade Chair, was also feted, but we hope he understands his second billing here because he doesn't really go with our tech theme. (Bill, we love you anyway, and when our Finance Newsletter starts up, maybe we'll bring this out of the vault.) With Bill: Korn/Ferry's Lorraine Lavet and McGuireWoods' John Williamson. Bill says he's looking forward to June 5; that's when BOT will host Stefan Jacoby, CEO of Volkswagen of America, who just moved the company's headquarters to Herndon. Later this summer, Bill's heading to Barcelona and Venice on a vacation he won with a silent auction bid at last year's National Kidney Foundation ball. See how the Washington world is all inter-connected?

We really like FedResults CEO Bob Dinkel—here with the NVTC's Christine Kallivokas—but after appearing in Bisnow seven zillion times we put a moratorium on taking his picture. Then Bob went and told us FedResults has reached a partnership with Topside Consulting (the two companies represent more then 50 business customers and employ about 40 consultants) with talk of a possible merger and, well, we gave in. So enjoy your picture Bob, you're cut off until 2012.

M&T Bank CEO Peter Black and Office Movers CEO John Kane. With gas moving toward $4 a gallon, everyone is feeling the pinch, including John whose company owns 300 moving trucks in the Mid-Atlantic. "Until we learn how to levitate office furniture we're in trouble," he says, noting diesel fuel is near $5/gallon and is expected to hit $6 before the end of the year. At least Peter is happy; he dropped a couple of pounds for swimsuit season, but as John notes "everything he loses I gain."
