We felt the intellectual heat last night at Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year awards banquet at the Tysons Ritz. More than 500 showed up for martinis and dinner—oh, and to see winners announced (see below). We moseyed around looking for scoops not on a cone.

It’s been a whole six days since we saw former AOLer and Caps owner Ted Leonsis at a party, but hey, he was given a special Master Entrepreneur award Thursday so we had to take his picture. He’s with son Zach (left, if we have to tell you) and Rosetta Stone COO Eric Eichmann.

We know in theory our friends, former SRA CEO Remmy DiPentima and wife Pat, are retirees, but thankfully we still see lots of them at events, when they’re not at homes in  Ft. Lauderdale and Annapolis. Renny’s on four company boards, including SRA’s, and spends his free time—get this—racing around on a jet ski. Pat, do something about him!

Versar CEO Ted Prociv and wife JoAnn with Versar board member Amir Metry and wife Nawal. Ted tells us Versar is a growing project management company, specializing in construction management, environmental sciences and engineering infrastructure.  In about as much research as we do, we see the Washington Post lists them as one of this region’s top 100 public companies: 374 employees and over $100M in annual revenue in ’07. But Ted tells us they’ve experienced 70% growth in the last year, and (this must signal more riches ahead) start a project in Abu Dhabi later this month.

AOC Solution’s Walt Tomme and wife Debbie with CEO Allen Cage.  AOC specializes in Web-based commercial card payment with its flagship product Encompass, providing banks and companies with a single platform to handle all of their payable accounts. One purchase Allen just made was a new boat he plans to sail to Nags Head on its maiden voyage next month.

LogiXML CEO Arman Eshraghi with KenRay PartnersMarc Zeid and Ray Rice (the Ray in KenRay). Arman tells us his company just released a “widgenie” that lets users design graphs from spreadsheet data and then place a widget of the graph on blogs, social networks and other Web sites.

G&B Solutions’ Jim Lexo, Mark Brofman, CEO Linda Berdine and Kim Nelson. Based in McLean, G&B is a government IT consultant with nearly 300 employees and $34 million in revenue. They have 26 government agencies as clients, including the Dept. of Interior, which they help with land management. When Linda isn’t leading her company, she trains horses for show jumping.

Speaking of the show, top entrepreneurs named (in different categories) were:  Jim Abdo, ABDO Development; Magid M. Abraham and Gian M. Fulgoni, comScore, Inc.; Tom Adams, Rosetta Stone; David Bostwick, Bostwick Laboratories; Seth Goldman, Honest Tea; Ron Packard, K-12; and Dennis Ratner, the Ratner Companies

David Stegon’s car doesn’t have air conditioning, but he’ll still drive anywhere for a good story. Tell him where to go for his article at david@bisnow.com or 703-674-7718.
