That long-awaited DISA Global Services Management contract? Expect an industry day in February . . . maybe. DISA’s Tony Montemarano hedged with valor at yesterday’s AFCEA DC luncheon at the Pentagon City Ritz.
DISA's Tony Montemarano, information assurance chief Rich Hale and CTO David Mihelcic at AFCEA DC event

Tony, left, with fellow panelists from DISA, information assurance chief Rich Hale and CTO David Mihelcic. More from Tony: The agency is cutting down on the size of the software it buys, looking for smaller programs instead of gigantic platforms. Meaning? More task orders and smaller RFPs.

DISA's John Garing

Top Secret: We caught director for strategic planning and information John Garing displaying a booklet that highlights the agency's seven principles of operation, which he admitted he shouldn’t be showing. (Our lips are sealed. Typing fingers? Unaccounted for.) Note from CTO David: When it comes to the warfighter, DISA wants everything to be over IP, and the agency is taking a more thin client approach.

Helios HR CEO Kathy Albarado

Our prediction issue earlier this week was so full, but we don’t think it’s too late for a few extra. (After all, people still wish us “Happy New Year” during awkward sidewalk stop and chats.) Helios HR CEO Kathy Albarado says: given the activity levels of companies last quarter, 2010 is going to be a breakout year for many organizations. We’ll see increases in hiring and spending on technology initiatives, like Human Resource Information Systems.

Sitscape's Kelley Hu and Kevin Yin

Sitscape CEO Kevin Yin (right, with Kelley Hu) offers:

  • Location-based services will gain momentum.

  • Smart phones will be a key strategic platform for both consumer and enterprise players.

  • Business will have more initiatives with less IT dependencies through self-service

Brad Duckworth, Dutko's Matt Schrader, and Andrew James

Congrats to Dutko Worldwide senior associate and Alabama alum Matt Schrader, busy celebrating the Tide’s win over Texas in last night’s BCS National Championship. Here’s Matt, center, mid-party (all he’s missing is Bear Bryant’s houndstooth hat) with friends Brad Duckworth and Andrew James during last night’s game.

You don't just see cool gadgets at the 2500 booths in the Las Vegas convention center when you're at the Consumer Electronics Show. Our publisher snapped this last night at a post-Day One party at the Encore Hotel (can you hear the Alabama-Texas game in the back?) of Gannett President of Television (they own 23 stations) Dave Lougee, second from right, showing a prototype of a mobile TV the industry is abuzz about. With him: Gannett VP of Digital Matt Jones, Covington San Fran attorney Ken Ebanks, and Covington DC media guru Eric Greenberg. When we looked, the set was tuned to a news segment about John Edwards, which hints at the next big CES product to be unveiled: a time machine all the way back to 2008.
