Does our headline bring you back to the days of binary code? That number is actually today's date (1/11/11), so in honor of all the ones, we've got a smorgasbord of quick one-picture stories. (Also, it was just a busy news day.)
Brian March 2009.bmp

Last week, we asked for reactions to Secretary Gates' announced cuts to Pentagon spending. One came from Aequus Strategy Group CEO Brian March, who owns a SDVOSB in Great Falls. His words: In theory, the DoD tech cuts are achievable. In practice, the consolidation and de-siloing of redundant and unnecessary infrastructure—and securing the multi-billion dollar cost savings—will be tough. SecDef will not only need full buy-in from each branch, all the way down to the command and installation levels, but also the cooperation of Tier 1 system integrators and mid-tier NetOp firms and technology providers. There is no mission downside to consolidation. Done efficiently and effectively, it will improve mission critical performance and make more dollars available for investment in cutting edge, paradigm-shifting, game changing technology. But consolidation will gore multiple oxen and will be a treacherous political trail.

DRC to Clarendon
Paul Strasser
Exciting news this morning at Dynamics Research Corporation, a 55-year-old (does AAPR take whole firms?) NASDAQ-traded company. It announced a move of its corporate HQ from Andover, Mass., to Clarendon. The new office will include the company’s newly formed Federal Group HQ, as well as a demonstration center, a training center, and DRC executive offices. It'll be located on Wilson Blvd. DRC’s Federal Group SVP Paul Strasser says they'll maintain functional offices in Andover while enjoying new proximity to DC decisionmakers.

Farewell, Rick!
A fond farewell to TCM executive director Rick Harris (left, with TCM CEO Renee Winsky and Maryland State Delegate Brian Feldman). Yesterday, Rick announced he's leaving at the end of the month to become executive director at the Association of Proposal Management Professionals. If you've ever attended a TCM event, you've likely had a hearty hello and warm welcome from Rick. We'll miss our extended talks on intimidation techniques while playing table tennis.

For Missions on the Move,
GSA Goes the Distance

Considering the business of government, it's not difficult to imagine the amount of transportation activity that takes place any given day. At GSA, we offer a broad range of transportation solutions to simplify the movement of freight, household goods, and value employees around the world. Our solutions include an array of innovative tools and expert resources that help federal agencies meet mission-critical requirements, while reducing costs, and maintaining quality service levels.

For example, GSA's Transportation Management Services Solution (TMSS) makes it easy to fulfill transportation needs and ensure compliance with federal regulations. This centralized, web-based solution allows users to select best value Transportation Service Providers (TSPs), book shipments online, and issue electronic bills of lading. All you need to do is click, move it, and save. At the heart of TMSS is GSA's Freight Management Program (FMP) and Centralized Household Goods Traffic Management Program (CHAMP). Combined, this dynamic system provides access to a wide selection of approved FMP and CHAMP TSPs and their cost-effective transportation rates.

In addition, GSA's Transportation, Delivery and Relocation Solutions (TDRS) help agencies get what they need from point A to point B in an efficient, effective manner. From consulting to corporate lodging; domestic, express, and local courier delivery; ground passenger transportation; employee and office relocation; and rental supplemental vehicles, GSA is ready to simplify and streamline your transportation experience.

The deployment of manpower, freight, and goods plays a vital role in government. But knowing which solution best meets your needs can be a daunting challenge. GSA makes it easy to manage your transportation activities, whether you're shipping heavy equipment or relocating an employee or office. We offer the tools you need to reduce paper heavy processes and sort through the complexities of purchasing transportation services. The result places you in total control of the procurement process, saving valuable time and money while making your job easier. To learn more, visit http://www.gsa.gov/transportation or call (877) 472-4441.
