WEEKEND ROUNDUP

Two downtown clubs opened this weekend. Midtown, at 1219 Connecticut Ave (formerly Play Lounge) and Lima, on K Street, which had closed for renovation. We got in to see who was there on Day 1.

Misty Bright and Jody Roberts take advantage of the completely reworked dance floor, all-new sound and lighting, and state-of-the-art DJ booth. There’s also staged dancer platforms, extended bar, elevated VIP party table, and two skyboxes. We’ve been to the skyboxes at Nationals Park. These are much different.

Kelly Dieter, Julia Andrus, and Nancy Kook. Kelly tells us they were celebratin’ “Obama style.” Hearing this, we looked for Secret Service because we assumed this meant the girls were dancin’ with Hillary Clinton before breaking her heart to go home with Joe Biden instead.

Club owner Michael Romeo kept an eye on things from the skybox. The club will be open Tuesday through Saturday and available for private happy hours seven days a week. Michael also owns Fur, Lotus, and Tattoo

MEANWHILE, AT LIMA…

Last week we jumped across the street to Lima, which just opened its doors after a 10 day renovation to throw a party with Washington Life, kicking off the November issue. Managers Ciro Costanzo and Guillermo Roa tell us they’ve removed columns to make the dance floor larger, and bars on all three floors have been updated.

Montview Realty’s Fletcher Gill, Dermalogica’s Melissa Blackwell, dentist Wilson Chang, and our own Karin Tanabe, who wrote many of the articles for Washington Life’s issue. Melissa tells us their hottest procedure these days is skin brightening, which we gather is the opposite of tanning. Wish we’d learned about that last week. Does anyone know if Macy’s has refunds on tanning beds?

AND AT LOTUS…

Last week we also checked out Lotus’s Amnesia Wednesday. All mixed house beats, no pop chart stuff. We’re not sure why they call it Amnesia Wednesday, though. Maybe because you’ll have so much fun you’ll forget what you did when you wake up in your sink the next morning. Lauren Millnick, Nicole Cantu and Chris Houser, who all work at Salon Cielo, grab some drinks at the bar. Notice how they all have nice hair? Wonder why.

Erwin Gomez Salon’s Dorota and GW Student Agata get the guys’ attention as they dance for us by the bar.

Ever watch the equalizer on your Windows Media Player? One whole side of this stylish bar is the same thing. The lights flash and move to the music. It’s pure candy for the eyes. We couldn’t look away.

DJ Omar pumped the beats throughout the club. Straight from Miami, Omar flies up every Wednesday night just to rock the Lotus. Can you believe he uses CDs and 45s!? This guy is so retro he is definitely in.
