United We Stand!

Our taste buds are wild for the 9th annual Sugar & Champagne Affair, Jan 27, Ritz Carlton. It benefits the Washington Humane Society, so head out for a great cause. See ad at right.

 
The Skins weren’t the only DC team to get a new coach yesterday. We were on hand to celebrate with DC United.
 

Everyone welcomed new coach Curt Onalfo with open arms last night at packed downtown restaurant BlackFinn. He’s with former DC United player and now assistant coach Ben Olsen. This is Onalfo’s second stint in DC; he played for DCU in ’98-‘99 and served as an assistant coach from ‘00-’02, helping the team win four trophies, including the MLS Cup in ’99.

DC United fans dressed in team colors to welcome the new coach and his staff.  Westerman Hattori’s Steve Parker and Bill Westerman (second from right) and N-tieractive’s Joe Meringolo and Marty Spain told us their companies sponsor DC United’s program letting ticketholders sit on field level seats during games. At right is DCU’s Chris Insolera. Thanks to Vithaya for the photos.

We snapped DC leading goal scorer Jaime Moreno, with his wife, who told us he’s ready to bring the Open Cup back to DC this year.

We also snapped team owner William Chang and prez Kevin Payne.

Pursuit of Happiness!

 

Last night, we also visited G’town’s Lululemon to hear hip, young motivational speaker and author of Add More ~ing To Your Life, Gabrielle Bernstein. She’s flanked by Kate Barr and AU MBA student Erica Finkelson, holding her book, which helps you combat negative thoughts and create personal change to make happiness a way of life

 

The Tenfold Forty’s Gillian Markert, Cailin Monahan (president), and McKay Elliot helped bring Gabrielle to DC for this event. Tenfold is a women’s non-profit focused on living a balanced lifestyle while giving back to the community, with funds going toward treatment for HPV-caused cervical cancer.  


Corduroy!

 

Near the Convention Center is a great contemporary American restaurant named Corduroy. Under the culinary direction of Chef Tom Powers, it gets much of its produce from local farms. We caught up with Tom recently, who told us the restaurant is about delivering solid American cuisine, prepared to perfection, such as fan faves lobster carpaccio and braised pork belly.

 

The restaurant moved last year from its old location a few blocks away at the Sheraton Four Points. It’s very minimalist, with warm colors in the two-level space and two large dining rooms that seat up to 35 each. Cheers!
