Tribute to
Robert Egger!

Need a jumpstart in 2013? Join us for a Back to Business Schmoozarama, Wed. Jan. 16, 6-8pm at Fujimar. Open bar and top networking. Sign up now!

Last night, we went to A Tribute to Robert Egger, hosted by NBC4's Jim Vance at The Hamilton Live.

Egger, the founder of DC Central Kitchen will head west to launch L.A. Kitchen. We snapped him (second from right) with National Geographic fellow Barton Seaver, Think Food Group acclaimed chef Jose Andres, and former Secretary of Agriculture Dan Glickman.

DCCK serves up 10,000 balanced meals every day, packed with fresh, local produce. The meals are delivered to homeless shelters, after-school programs, and low-income residents. Washington Jesuit Academy’s Gregory Naleski, Brian Ray, and William Whitaker flank Georgetown University Woodstock Theological Center’s Rev. Ray Kemp (in sweater).

DC Central Kitchen chef Rock Harper, Veronica Rock, and 1789 Restaurant’s Anthony Lombardo.

Healthy!

We joined Ladies DC and Dance Trance for A Healthy New You at Balance Gym Thomas Circle and the after party at Lincoln. We snapped EO’s Christina Frisina, Plan International USA’s Katie Appel, and research associate Tanya Rosenblut. Since everyone still believes their New Year's resolutions will happen, later we joined the group by spending more time with their family and visiting Paris.

Ladies DC is the local chapter of Ladies America, a national network of young, professional women, with over 2,000 local members. Dance Trance DC is a dance fitness company that creatively combines Top 40 music with choreography and aerobics. The evening helped busy women meet their ‘13 fitness goals. Here, make up artist Shadi Mofakhami, Costia boutique’s Emily Diaz, and Beveridge & Diamond’s Justine Nguyen.

A panel of experts shared their best practices to set personal and professional goals in the coming year. Here, Ladies America’s Lindsey Mask, Dance Trance DC’s Sarah Sands, and Sweetgreen’s Alia Khayrullina.

Al Dente!

Roberto Donna, famed chef of Galileo, is now the chef of Al Dente on New Mexico Ave, a fun, informal neighborhood spot with great Italian food. He’s also one of the chefs at two amazing evenings, Sips & Suppers, supporting DC Central Kitchen and Martha’s Table. On Jan. 26, Sips features top chefs and mixologists preparing signature dishes and drinks at the Newseum for 500 guests. On Jan. 27, Suppers features celebrity chefs creating intimate dinners in two dozen homes across the city. Although Roberto’s dinner is sold out, a few spots remain with other top chefs, so don’t delay: sipsandsuppers.org

Al Dente owner Hakan Ilhan is the embodiment of the American dream. He came here from Turkey and has more than a dozen eateries to his name. He opened Al Dente as La Forchetta in the spring but changed the name in the fall to avoid an argument with a similarly named restaurant.

Why doesn’t our arugula salad look like this? (Maybe because we don’t roast beets, then shave thin slices under the greens?)

Alfredo Flores contributed to this issue.
