Union Jack’s British Pub held a grand opening party at their new Ballston Common location in Arlington last Thursday night. Killer drink specials, a DJ, darts, and sports – what more could the post-college / young professional Ballston crowd ask for?

CleanSkies TV News Producer Ashley Baird pauses to pose with roommate Brian McKeown (decked out in yellow, part of his WVU pride?), the bearded Mike Bernardi, and his cousin, visiting from out of town. Ashley, a home-grown girl, recently moved back to the DC area after her last job as an Associate Producer for CBS' the Early Show in NYC. Brian holds a top-secret job in the DC area. As they say, "if we told you, we'd have to kill you."

Fashion in DC

La’Vand means sexy, seductive, and attractive in Persian. Pari and Tabby Zamani (they’re sisters – Tabby is on the left) are all that and more. La’Vand opened its doors in 2006 and has been clothing the best-dressed party-goers in DC ever since. Each item in the store is unique; the sisters fly to NYC and LA once or twice a month to bring back special items to keep DC scene-sters looking their best.

Pari (above) is a local girl, attending Herndon High School and George Mason. After a brief stint at the World Bank, she gave into her love of fashion and brought La’Vand’s trendy styles to Pentagon Row in Arlington.

Pari, here with her husband Aryan Raeisian, who owns spinnindjs.com and can often be seen at Lima, Panache, and Eyebar, Although DC is known for its conservative tastes in fashion, La’Vand encourages shoppers to think outside the box. And since it only purchases a couple sizes for each item, you won’t have to worry about wearing the same outfit as someone else.  An exception: Prepare to be politically hip and stylish with a commemorative t-shirt this January.  They are one of the boutiques that will be carrying an exclusive shirt designed by Rolling Stone magazine for President-elect Obama’s Inauguration.

Bright Spot to Cleveland Park

Cleveland Park has a bright new hangout. Local chain YogiBerry just opened its doors at Sam’s Park and Shop, 3515 Connecticut Ave. From green tea and toffee chip smoothies to berry yogurt with raspberries, YogiBerry is a fresh delight. Stop by and support your local community – for the food and because you never know what friendly neighbor you may run into.

Today --Tickets just went on sale today for an Inauguration celebration: the All American Ball at the Westin in DC City Center. This Inaugural ball is a toast to American culture, and features all-inclusive tickets starting at $250 if you buy early. For more, visit: http://allamericanball.com/tickets.html

Tuesday, December 9th  --  Rustico at 827 Slaters Lane (on the corner of Slaters and Potomac Greens Dr) in Alexandria will hold its annual Festivus celebration. They will be pouring four special celebratory ales: Gouden Carolus Noel, Bell’s Christmas Ale, Harpoon Winter Warmer, and—of course—Troeg’s Mad Elf! Get a free glass from each brewery for each beer purchased, and make sure to check out the Mad Elf himself! Join the Festivus at the bar from 6 PM to 9 PM.

Thursday, December 11th -- check out the Bartending 4 Change event at Bourbon, 2321 18th Street, NW in Adams Morgan. From 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM, the annual holiday happy hour will benefit Hands on DC.
