Shelly's Back Room: Smokin' Meeting Place for DC Power Players!

Shelly's Back Room owner Bob Materazzi tells us when he retired from his executive gig with Marriott, he did what every middle-aged man dreams of doing: He bought a bar. Not just any bar: Shelly's Back Room, two blocks from the White House and DC's premier cigar lounge. Why is this cozy, Minnesota lodge atmosphere so preferred by Capitol power players, business people, visiting celebrities and late-nighters? The tavern is comfortable, casual, and reasonably priced, making it a great spot for parties and corporate events. And don't forget about the sophisticated purified air system, which appeals to smokers and non-smokers. Bob bought Shelly's in 2000, when it did $800k in annual sales. Now, he reports a smokin' $3M. He says a good cigar is like a well-crafted bottle of wine, which you can also enjoy during lunch and dinner specials. For info on our sponsor, click here.

Heart of Mercy!

We went to the Italian Embassy for the Mercy Health Clinic Heart of Mercy Gala. We snapped the emcee, NBC4's Pat Collins, flanked by gala co-chair Kim Viti Fiorentino, Italian Embassy's Franco Impala, and MHC board member Christopher Perez.

A Venetian theme encouraged guests to wear their best masquerade masks as they enjoyed cocktails, dinner, and auctions. Here, MHC exec director John Kleiderer and his wife Kelly bookended by Dr. James Ronan and MHC board member Bill Olson.

MHC gives free healthcare, education, and drugs to low-income uninsured MoCo residents. Here, board member Elena Caulfield, Jay Vending Co's John Messenger and wife Mary Ann, Shady Grove Adventist Hospital's Dr. Brett Gamma and wife Mary Kay.

Rock 'n' Roll!

We joined thousands at the finish line of the Rock 'n Roll marathon at RFK Stadium. And we're so proud of Bisnow Media's Laura Bellantoni and Chris Baird who ran the whole way.

30,000 runners polished off a full or half marathon with beer and music starting at 9am. CEB's Steve Adams and Stephanie Natusch are with HeaLogics' Britton Cone.

The Local Palate's Cameron Colcolough, Strawbridge Studios' Ned Reynolds, VT student David Cross and wife Simply Meg's Anna, Oracle's Tony Starinieri, David's sis, VT student Caroline Cross.

St Pats at PJs!

Yesterday we stopped by P.J. Clarke's for St. Patrick's Day with an Irish Pipe and Drum Band and 'Skins Cheerleaders. Here, DHS's Lindsey Johnson, Guest of a Guest's Sophie Pyle, Necessary and Proper's Lauren Wynns, and Cori Sue Morris.
