Yesterday we got our first taste of an Obama presidency. And it came with pepperoni. The DC Ritz-Carlton unveiled offerings they'll shower upon guests who stay during Inauguration, and they invited Italian Fiesta Pizza, Obama's favorite pizzeria, to come all the way from Chicago with samples.

Italian Fiesta's Rob Jones, Eric Tubbs, Patti Harris Tubbs, Steve Harris, and Rodney Meeks packed their van with ovens and ingredients and drove from Hyde Park. The pizzeria has been serving for 60 years, and Steve represents the 4th generation. Patti tells us she first read about Obama's love for them online; only later did her sister confirm the story when she ran into Michelle Obama at a supermarket. Our taste tests confirm their thin crust packs a punch, and we particularly enjoyed the bacon and pineapple.

Doesn't it seem like there's been more talk about Barack Obama's new puppy than his foreign policy? The Ritz invited Stephanie Weber from the newly renovated Washington Animal Shelter to showcase a few of their companions, including "Annoro." Stephanie tells us they've written a couple letters to the President-elect suggesting he stop by to pick out a pup. If you're looking for your own dog or cat, check out their website.

The Ritz Carlton is very animal friendly, as evidenced by this doggy White House. Heiler Woodworking's Chris Heiler and "Willie," a Rottweiler, worked with Sroka Design to build it.

Ritz's Fatime Yaldiz and Ben the Bath Butler showed us what you receive if you stay at the Ritz on January 19-21: Custom-made soap from local Harmony Creek Farm; monogrammed pillowcases with a Presidential seal; and inauguration-themed baths; even the food will be Obama-style. Last night we tasted Turkey Chili made from a real Obama family recipe. It was delectable. Maybe that's what Newark Mayor Cory Booker meant by "racial deliciousness."

Big Discounts!

Native Washingtonian Kelly Collis Fredrick has a solution to the difficulty any DC girl has staying aware of good deals these days. We sat down with her to learn more about her website, CityShopGirl, which alerts shoppers to special discounts and promotions from local boutiques, restaurants, spas, and more.  "My background in public relations and marketing got me frustrated with ways to offer inexpensive advertising to clients," says Kelly.  On CityShopGirl, she charges a flat rate for subscribers to receive email alerts with the latest specials her clients have to offer.  If you invite 10 friends to subscribe, she'll even throw in a gift card to a featured retailer.  Look for the site to expand to other fashion conscious cities, such as Atlanta and Boston (we'll take her word they're fashion-conscious), in 2009.

Fashion Forward, Celebrity Fashion Show (Shadow Room - 2131 K Street, NW, Tonight 7PM): Professional runway models along with the Washington Redskins Cheerleaders and Washington Wizards Girls will unveil some of the hottest designs from the Fall 2008 collection of the DC based brand - iKY Clothing. Tickets are $50 in advance and $60 at the door. 100% of the event's proceeds will benefit Hood Dreams Scholarship Fund.

Kelly's Irish Times (14 F St. NW, Every Saturday, 8pm-11pm) $15 all-you-can-drink special featuring Miller Lite, Miller High Life and Blue Moon.

Thanksgiving Bar Hop (Bethesda & DC) The 2nd Annual Bethesda Fall Bar Tour and Upper East Fall Bar Tour (in DC) are sponsored by Lindy Promotions. Get $2 Miller Lites, food specials and more for just $10 per ticket.
