October 20, 2011
Night of Fashion!

Get ready to party for a cause, Oct 26, at the Chris4Life Colon Cancer Foundation’s Inaugural Blue Hope Bash at The Decatur House. Enjoy great food, entertainment, and raise funds to support the fight against colon cancer. RSVP now!

Last night we stopped by the W Hotel for An Evening of Fashion to benefit Children’s National Medical Center.

All profits go to the hospital. We snapped MCs Telemundo Sports Anchor Jorge Andres and ABC Sports Anchor Britt McHenry.

Guests at the VIP reception enjoyed specialty cocktails like Acai mojitos, bite-sized burgers, and shrimp cocktail; DJ Neekola spun tunes. We saw photographer Jonathan Norris and stylist Beverly Rivers.

Designers at the runway show included Red Chapter, TSYNDYMA, and Donovan England. George Mason social work student Sarah El-Ghoul, Home Exteriors’ Markus Horner, and Sunset Learning’s Sara Fredrickson came from Vienna.

Paws at the Park!

Never mind the rain! The dogs came out last night for Halloween Happy Hour, Paws at the Park, a Halloween-themed costume contest and happy hour at downtown’s Park Hyatt. Trader Joe's Brian Pressel brought his dogs Regina and Lili.

Proceeds went to the Washington Animal Rescue League. Pro Feed Pet Nutrition Center donated a gift basket of goodies for the contest winner; its marketing director Tracy Kinnahan is with Foggy Bottom Grocery owner Kris Hart and his dog Jade.

Heather Roberts, who’s studying for the CPA exam, and GW student Nicole Robert made French bulldog Chloe very happy with the complementary doggie ice cream treats.

Hearts & Homes!

We went to the Bolger Center Tuesday night for Honors 2011 benefiting Heart & Homes for Youth to honor those who make a difference in the lives of Maryland kids. We snapped Minority Whip Steny Hoyer flanked by his COS Terry Lierman, who paid tribute to the family of Abe Pollin for paying for college degrees for 59 PG Co kids, and by Prof Robert Pollin and Sen Cardin’s Ken Reichard.

MoCo first lady Kathy Leggett chaired the event. We saw her on the outside patio, where guests enjoyed Legacy cocktails, pomegranate martinis, and perfect weather, with MCCC Foundation prez Barbara Ashe. Then everyone had Provençal shrimp and herb marinated chicken breast with polenta while they listened to the awards.

HHY started in 1964 when several juvenile court judges wanted to stop a pattern they saw in their courtrooms. Since that time, HHY has offered foster care, independent living and the support children need to succeed. We snapped FirstPic SVP Robbie Callaway, who led the live auction, with former MD Sen. Larry Levitan and Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation’s Steve Salem.

Guests had a bidding war over the doggie basket, a hot item in the silent auction. Here, UBS’ Howard Rothman, HHY prez Rex Smith, Clovis’ Glen Bass, and Victor Seested, whose family donated $20k in honor of Avis Bierly, who spent 40 years working for HHY; it plans to open a center named for her next year.

Joe Biden and Chris Dodd lunched at Penn Quarter’s Carmine’s Sunday. Not to be outdone, since we were starving and they have huge portions, the Bisnow crew and friends went there for dinner. We’re surrounding PR expert Jill Collins (in blue) and exec chef Rudy Volpe. He’s wearing his Yankees cap because Carmine’s started in the Big Apple.

We were impressed with the various menus Carmine’s has to make it easier for people with different food requests to know what to order, such as menus for various allergies, gluten free, and vegan.

Host a Toast!

We went to Gibson Guitar Showroom last week for a launch party for new events company Host a Toast. We snapped its founders, Jacqueline Geyfman and Roxanne Dillon, surrounding DC Housing Authority’s Carlos Gray, son of Mayor Vince Gray.

Erica Moody and Caitlin Byrnes contributed to this issue.
