MONEY AND SONG

The big deal Senators are all out of Washington campaigning for President (or Vice President). So this week we had to import our stars.

LAST NIGHT: BALLMER AT GRAND HYATT

Last night, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, the world’s 43rd richest man according to Forbes, spoke to 700 at the American Electronics Association annual dinner. His tie was made from thinly woven strands of 24-karat gold—well, okay, maybe it was just red silk. With him is AeA CEO Chris Hansen. Steve told us his current favorite song on his Zune (Microsoft’s iPod) is Mama Cass’s Make Your Own Kind of Music,” which he first heard on the soundtrack to Lost.

LAST NIGHT: OOSTERHOUSE AT LIB OF CONGRESS

One of People magazine’s “Sexiest Men Alive,” Carter Oosterhouse, emcee. He's host of Carter Can, shooting its second season for Home and Garden Network, and reminds us he’s launching a new series, Red, Hot and Green on HGTV this Sunday. Here the Nautica model flashes his whites with Chairwoman of the American Red Cross Bonnie McElveen-Hunter, who told us Carter was one of the anchors she used when she launched video on United Airlines. Her first anchor? Then cub reporter Brian Williams.

WARWICK AT BUILDING MUSEUM

Five-time Grammy Award winner Dionne Warwick sang Saturday night at Washington Hospital Center’s 50th anniversary. We caught her coming into the National Building Museum and were tempted to say:  Don't "Walk on By." We're here for you. "That's What Friends are For." OK, we'll stop.
