LAST NIGHT'S
HOLIDAY BASH

This Saturday, DC will be the center of college football! The start of bowl season happens at RFK, at the first-ever EagleBank Bowl. Navy v. Wake Forest. Be there! Please see ad at right for details.

Don't tell the patrons of the arts who flooded the Kennedy Center last night for the 28th annual gala to support Choral Arts that the economy's in trouble. Or maybe they know, and that's why they generously stepped up to the plate. Or maybe it was the unrelenting efforts of gala chair Cathy Jones. 700 showed their holiday spirit, shelling out $6k to $25k per table for the cause.

Maybe Microstrategy’s two top guys, Mike and Sanju, didn't become doctors and lawyers, but they seem to have them as friends. Here, Microstrategy founder Mike Saylor with lawyer Julie Chase.

And co-founder and Vice Chairman Sanju Bansal with friend Anjali, whose last name we’d mangle if we try to spell what we forgot to write down. (Anyway, this gives her a one-name mystique.) We do know she’s an internist in Fairfax.

Last night in the Concert Hall, as we listened to Choral Arts' 190 singers entertain with Christmas songs in English and Czech. The audience joined in, after the Czech ambassador came on stage to give us a little language lesson. (You try saying “Hvezdy pri svitu” without help!)

Deloitte public sector global head Greg Pellegrino, gala chair Cathy Jones of Equis, NASA CFO Ron Spoehel and outgoing SI International president Brad Antle frame Ron's wife Debbie. SI was acquired over the summer for around half a billion; maybe that’s why he’s smiling.

84-year old icon William Webster, who was FBI Director under Presidents Carter and Reagan and CIA Director under Presidents Reagan and Bush 41, flanked by wife Lynda (in red), founder of the Webster Group, and realtor Connie Lawson. Standing are Trust Strategy Group CEO Jeff Weiss, PNC private equity president David Hillman, and Jeff's wife (and realtor) Christie Weiss. We won't go into the interconnections, but they've all been friends a long time.

Tiffanny Gates, left, is a world class cryptologist and top Navy grad who worked at the NSA, then founded Emerging Technologies, Inc. (We think if we knew what that meant we’d be in trouble.) With her: Ferris Baker Watts (now part of Royal Bank of Canada) SVP Diane Schaefer, who was gala finance chair; Cathy Jones; and Wilton, CT's Barb Dubiele, owner of Chase Medical Systems, who came down from Nantucket.

BET CEO Debra Lee with Stanley EVP George Wilson, who looks back fondly on great growth in 2008, including its $170M cash purchase of engineering and IT services firm Oberon. All meaning: more money for great charitable causes.
