Hollywood in DC!

Last night, we went to the highly anticipated DC premiere of Warner Bros’ Argo at Regal Gallery Place.
We snapped Academy Award winner Ben Affleck, who stars in and directed the dramatic thriller based on real events.
We also snapped star John Goodman. The film chronicles the life-or-death operation to rescue six Americans during the 1980 Iran hostage crisis. The CIA’s role was only recently declassified.
Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston with a full head of hair. ARGO opens nationwide tomorrow.

Last night, we also attended the Ayenda Foundation’s 7th annual gala at the British Ambassador’s residence to support Afghan educational programs. We snapped former Afghan Ambassador Said T. Jawad, his wife, Ayenda founder Shamim Jawad, British Ambassador Sir Peter Westmacott, and his wife Susan Nemazee.
The non-profit supports schools, skills, health, and computer labs for impoverished Afghan children and women. The Ayenda Learning Center in Bamiyan serves over 300 students, investing in the future generation of Afghanistan. Here, Alcatel-Lucent’s Marie Royce and Ayenda board member Michele Kessler.

Surviving Grace!
Last night, we also went to the Phillips Collection for a one-time-only reading of Surviving Grace for UsAgainstAlzheimer’s. We snapped the non-profit’s founder George Vradenburg, attorney Susan De Mars, Partnership for Brighter Tomorrows founder Annie Totah, actress Marilu Henner (Taxi) and husband Michael Brown.
The play’s author Trish Vradenburg and Amano owner Adam Mahr, during the pre-show cocktail hour, are with WAMU’s Diane Rehm, part of the celeb cast of readers. The night raised $150k.
After the reading, guests stayed for dinner. Here, Bank of America’s Surya Kolluri, National Council on Aging’s Richard Birkel with his wife Katherine, and Eli Lilly’s Tom Wallace with his wife Lynn.
Inside, guests mingled around the stunning artwork. Here, consultant Wendy Gray, Jewish cookbook guru Joan Nathan, Martha’s Table chair Cathy Sulzberger, and artist Carol Brown Goldberg (front) and real estate expert Hank Goldberg and attorney Alan Gerson.
Heather Mahoney and Caitlin Byrnes contributed to this issue.
