Elliott Yamin!

Chris4Life is working to crush colon cancer-with a party. Live performances, art-themed auction, cocktails, treats and celebs highlight the Blue Crush celebration. Tomorrow (July 27) at Stroga. More info.

We visited the Village at Leesburg to celebrate its grand opening last weekend with a summer block party benefiting Loudon Habitat for Humanity. Richmond native Elliott Yamin headlined.
One of the best liked American Idol contestants, Elliott was recently #3 on the Billboard Top 200 and had the highest independent debut by a new artist in chart history.
Elliott with IMPACT Marketing's Eddie Fam.
Opening the show was Virginia's Emmet Swimming, whose band has received 14 Washington Area Music Association Awards, including Artist of the Year.

We also stopped by Clinton Portis' All White Party this past weekend at Famoso Restaurant and Lounge in Chevy Chase. Proceeds aid students along the Gulf coast who've been displaced from their schools, athletic fields, and training grounds. The 'Skins running back is here with entrepreneur Joe Bird.
Mari Vayrynen, Tiina Kupianinen, Sandra Mrnjavac, and Molly Quella.
'Skins Brian Orakpo and Fred Davis flank Dr. Alex Naini.

The 2010 Capital Fringe Festival closed yesterday after three weeks at 30 venues in DC, with 137 different shows selling 33,000 tickets. Dai Andrews, billed as the world's greatest sword swallower (twice world record breaker) featured his unusual abilities.
Do Not Kill Me, Killer Robots was sung by Ben Egerman at the Point.
Chlamydia dell'Arte: A Sex-Ed Burlesque was performed by Gigi Naglak and Meghann Williams at the Baldacchino Gypsy Tent Bar at Ft. Fringe. This was one of the shows that wasn't recommended for families.
Capital Fringe board members Claire Carlin and Kingdon Gould flank executive director Julianne Brienza.

Mary Poppins!
We went to the Kennedy Center Opera House last night to see Mary Poppins and snapped this during the thunderous Standing O. The sets, costumes, singing, dancing-everyone there, from 7 to 77, loved it-and when Mary flew over the audience and up past the top of the third balcony, the sold-out crowd went nuts. It's here for another month.
The view from the terrace at intermission was spectacular after the storm. To all of you without power (reading on cell phones, of course), we hope your lives return to normal soon!
