Corcoran Uncorked!

Last night we went to the Corcoran Gallery of Art for the debut of ‘Corcoran Uncorked,’ a new series of late-night evenings.
It had a tasting and book party for Washington DC Chef’s Table. We snapped the book’s photographer Emily Pearl Goodstein and author Beth Kanter.
The series of Wednesday evenings will feature new programming and drinks from the city’s top mixologists and wine directors, with a special fixed-price for admission. Here, Baked & Wired’s Jamal Callaway, Jaleo exec chef Ramon Martinez, and Zaytinya head chef Michael Costa.
Cakelove’s Warren Brown with Baked & Wired’s Teresa Velazquez and Brenda Zaidman.

Gallery 31!
Last night we also went to Gallery 31, the Corcoran’s dedicated exhibition space for the Corcoran College of Art + Design. The name was selected by the students, referring to its prior designation as “Room 31” in original Corcoran plans. We snapped its curator Marti Peran, Spanish Cultural Action’s Ahaei Garcia and Edgar Endress.
Gallery 31, located at the New York Ave entrance, is open during Gallery hours, free to the public, and hosts exhibitions by Corcoran students, alumni, faculty, and visiting artists. Here, artists Billy Friebele and Michael Dax Incovone with Corcoran College exhibitions director Joseph Asher Hale.
Margo Elsayo, artist Mia Feuer, and Hamiltonian Artists fellow Jonathan Monaghan.

Last night we dined at hot new restaurant Woodward Table, in the old Potenza space at 15th and H, and chatted with super chef Jeff Buben, proprietor of Vidalia and Bistro Bis. In addition to a bar and restaurant, they also have Woodward Takeout Food, WTF. Jeff says the delicious food isn’t French or Southern, like his two other spots, but American. He’s one of the amazing chefs participating in the Jan. 26-27 food extravaganza benefiting Martha’s Table and DC Central Kitchen, www.sipsandsuppers.org/. It’s almost full: sign up!
We ran into Cushman & Wakefield’s Matthew Alexander and David Dochter surrounding Lockheed Martin’s Chris Hunt.

Yesterday was the 8th Annual DC Public Schools GeoPlunge Tournament at the National Portrait Gallery. Congrats to Arent Fox telecom partner Alan Fishel (front, center) who created the award-winning game, GeoPlunge, which motivates children to learn more about our country and enhances teamwork, social skills, and self-esteem. Here, the volunteers who ran the game with the kids.
Mayor Vince Gray proclaimed it GeoPlunge Day. More than 200 4th to 6th graders from 30 DC public schools competed in the tournament to get them excited about geography, part of a program to improve education in local schools. Congrats to the winning team from Alice Deal Middle School, the first squad to win all 13 of its matches.

Cardinal & Phoenix!
Congrats to Cardinal Bank’s Community Fund, which gave $7,500 to Phoenix Houses of the Mid-Atlantic, which celebrated its 50th anniversary and has become the nation’s leading provider of alcohol and drug abuse treatment and prevention services. Here, Cardinal CEO Bernard Clineburg, Buck & Assoc CEO William Buck, and Phoenix Houses’ Suzie Buck, Deborah Simpson Taylor, and director Edd Nolen.
Alfredo Flores contributed to this issue.
