We didn’t publish yesterday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, but we celebrated his accomplishments. The BET Honors Awards took over the DC area this weekend.

After the awards ceremony at the Warner, stars sipped, mingled and danced at after parties. We spotted BET's T.J. Holmes, formerly of CNN, with wife Marilee Fiebig at the official BET Honors after party at the National Portrait Gallery in the Hennessy lounge.

Sweet Potato DC

The Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, always gathers a crowd.

Kastles owner Mark Ein, his girlfriend Mehlman Vogel Castegnetti's Sally Stiebel, and former NFL linebacker, now host of the Travel Channel’s Dhani Tackles the Globe Dhani Jones.

CNN's Wolf Blitzer and Debra Lerner Cohen.

ABC 7’s Cynne Simpson and Howard Law admissions dean Reggie McGahee.

R&B/Hip Hop guru Common hosted his own after party at The Park. Singer and star of HBO’s The No.1 Ladies' Detective Agency Jill Scott danced with him at his VIP Hennessy table. Meanwhile, that gentleman in the back left offered to fight us. We politely declined.

Honoring MLK at the Cathedral!

Yesterday we went to The National Cathedral for its annual King in Our Midst program, as people from all walks of life came together to sing, dance and celebrate the legacy of faith and service left by Dr. Martin Luther King. We saw Cathedral Vicar Rev. Jan Naylor Cope with Malcolm X Dancers and Drummers’ music director Doc Powell, choreographer Becky Umeh, and lead drummer Joseph Ngwa.

Short reflections were offered in several faiths by Buddhist, Jewish and Christian participants. Here, The Union for Reform Judaism's Rabbi Stephanie Bernstein, spoken-word artist and poet Tony Keith, and Coca-Cola's Rae Rajkumar, who served as the MC.

CityDance Conservatory performed. Here, its Director of Studio Education and Conservatory Lorraine Spiegler, George Alexander Adamson scholarship winner and dancer Taryn Bailey, and exec director Alexe Nowakowski.
