Adrian, Michelle,
& Hearts!

This Friday, an insane fund-raiser supporting Georgetown's Lombardi Cancer Center. Bustin' Loose at the Waterview Conference Center, Rosslyn. Auction memorabilia including from Taylor Swift, Barack Obama, and Alex Ovechkin, or a chance to dance with the Rockettes. Info.

Over the weekend, we went to different events with Adrian and Michelle Fenty. But first, we went to the twefth annual Heart Ball at the Tyson’s Ritz on Saturday to continue American Heart Month.

With heart disease remaining the #1 killer in the US, the ball was an elegant, black tie celebration of life, with 500 prominent philanthropists and community leaders. In support of the Go Red campaign, you guessed it: red was the chosen color of the evening. Here: Jerry Poirier and Robin King.

1st & Fresh - in-text

MC for the evening, WJLA’s Leon Harris, and auction chair, Small Business Success’ Christyne Nasbe, who’s volunteered for the AHA for 16 years.

NBC Sports’ Dan Hellie and his wife Anne donated Chris Cooley signed memorabilia.

We snapped the chairs of the ball, Sondra and Howard Bender, who donated $1 million! They told us they’ve been dedicated to the American Heart Association for many years, due to family experience with heart disease, and hope to inspire others to give.

Survivors were honored as the evening’s Faces of Heart, a campaign for families with an ongoing struggle, such as Sarah Fyock, a fearless 5-year-old who’s endured a long battle with heart disease, and had a heart transplant last year. She’s here with her family: mother Cheryl, father Brian, and brother Jacob.

B.I. Solutions CEO Stanley Campbell and his wife, sponsor CGI’s VP Cheryl Campbell, flank Miss Teen DC International Juliana McKee, the official spokesperson for the AHA. Cheryl said, “Great partnerships make great communities.”

The Italians are Coming!

We stopped by the Embassy of Italy Thursday night for a reception for DC's bid for the 2012 GIRO d'Italia, the Tour of Italy. Ernesto Colnago presented DC’s First CyclistAdrian Fenty, with a new Colnago racing bike, as Giro d’Italia race director Angelo Zomegnan pointed out the Mayor’s inscribed name.

It was hard to miss the 6’10” forward for the Knicks, Danilo Gallinari, in town to play the Wizards, here with The Scene Bisnow reporter Kristina D’Ambrosio.

The tour would be a great opportunity to bring one of the world's great cycling races to the nation's capital. Here, Willis International’s Dane Lee and Capital Outdoor’s Chris Tavlarides.

Fashion Fete!

Capital Breast Care Center hosted a fundraiser with Fashion Fix on Saturday night at boutique Rue 14 for breast cancer care for DC women. The guest of honor was Michelle Fenty, who’s president of the organization’s Advisory Council; she’s surrounded by the Center’s staff, Tesha Coleman, Susannah Fox, and Beth Beck.

WUSA9 reporter Surae Chinn served as MC and introduced DC’s First Lady, who praised the Center’s mission to provide culturally appropriate breast cancer screening services for women regardless of income. Thanks to Heawon Chung and Jacob KS Kim for photos.

Heather Mahoney, Kristina D’Ambrosio, and Makeda Saggau-Sackey contributed to today’s issue.
